Suggestions?
How bout low fat cottage cheese? 1 cup has 28g of protein. It is somewhat high in sodium, but the dairy is said to give an extra boost for fat loss. It has 6g of carbs, but like the bananas in CFD's comment, the benefits outweigh the carbs. Best of all, it requires no preparation!

Found this recipe and thought it looked delish....

I won't be using butter, will use olive oil instead and no Parmesan cheese at all....

Low carb cajun chicken pasta

Ingredients:

3/4 lb spaghetti squash cooked
2 T Butter
4 Skinless/boneless chicken breasts, sliced 1/2" thick
4 Cloves garlic, minced
1 Bunch green onions, chopped
3 T Cajun seasoning blend
1 t Freshly ground black pepper
1 t Ground cayenne pepper
16 ozs Heavy cream
1 Green pepper, julienned
1 Red pepper, julienned
8 ozs Fresh mushrooms, quartered
2 C Parmesan cheese, grated
Directions:
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium high heat.
Add chicken, cook stirring frequently until browned, about 6 to 8 minutes.
Add garlic, onions, Cajun seasoning blend, cayenne pepper, and ground black pepper.
Add red and green peppers and the mushrooms. Stir to combine. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
Uncover and add heavy cream, cook until hot but not boiling.
Stir in parmesan cheese until sauce is thick and creamy.
Serve over cooked low carb pasta or spaghetti squash.

Okay I need some guidance from the fitness gurus on here. I am planning to participate in a Zumbathon, A 3 hr marathon of Zumba to raise $ for a pregnancy center in my town. Okay regularly do Zumba &/or similar dance/exercize classes of 1 hr no problem. I know I will need to focus on staying hydrated & not push myself too hard. I know how to watch myself & take breaks or stop when/if needed. I want this to also be a calorie burning event but I know I will likely need to consume something during that time. So, that is my ? What & how much/how often should I eat something before, during & after the event to do it safely but still burn more than I take it?

I'm going to relate this to my long distance biking. If you have a heart rate monitor wear one. I got mine at Academy for $59.00. If you notice its getting too high, take a water break. You can always take a water break, every 15-30 minutes unless you other wise feel like you need it. I usually eat a HIGH protein meal before, so egg whites would be perfect (scrambled eggs or an omlet). I like those protein bars for snacks, you can try cliff or Luna. If you start feeling drained I would eat one. I usually need one every hour. But you really just need to listen to your body.

also go with natural sugars along with the protien bars to keep your energy high. Apples, oranges, bananas, grapes. With the amount of energy you will be putting out, you body will be craving anything to keep moving. Vitamin Water, Smart Water, Gatorade.. don't just think "water"..think electrolytes.

If you go for the Gatorade or Poweraid though make sure you are going for the Zero or G2 versions, they aren't as packed with sugar.

Thanks, for the input. I'll take all those into consideration as I plan for the Zumbathon.

Way to go SSMOKINHOT! The progress really shows, probably more than you think. Good job.

I would recommend doing something similar to what I do when training for a marathon....eat a bowl of oatmeal at least an hour prior to the event...slow release carbs are a perfect energy source for something like what you are doing versus proteins. Then, like hrpii said, during the exercise fruits (especially oranges) are awesome to help restore your glucose! But if you feel this might be a little messy another option that I love are Power Bar gel blasts (NOT the goo stuff). You can eat a few each time you feel your energy sources getting tapped out. The ones with caffeine in them work the best. Whatever you decide to go with, I would experiment with it first during your 1 hr sessions as some items can upset your stomach or give you cramps during exercise if you don't normally ingest them during your normal course of exercise.
