Alcohol/drugs, speeding, pre-existing medical condition, borrowed car (unfamiliar?), and NO seatbelts. Yup, they're GM's fault, too, I guess.

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2...0103/304110092

One out of 13 deaths in Canada, where the Number 1 and 2-selling GM cars were generally the Cobalt and G5, during the '05-'09 model years. In fact, a disproportionately HIGH (no pun) number of those cars were sold, production-wise; some years 20+%. Canada suffers from arguably worse weather conditions to drive in. Impaired driving penalties are severe, both for fines/suspensions/jail AND insurance premiums. So what gives?

EVERY province has MANDATORY SEATBELT USAGE laws...and an unscientific survey, in this case, would say seatbelts are worthy of constant use.

US (2008) - 55% of those killed in passenger vehicle occupant crashes were not wearing a seat belt. Seatbelt usage = 84%

Canada (2010) - 34% were not wearing seatbelts. Canadian seatbelt usage = 93%.

Heard on the news yesterday that the government is now sticking its nose into whether or not the ignition problem cars should even be allowed on the road. Really? They've been on the road for over a decade.

No.

It's a minor problem that was barely known....but resulted in a few deaths - and so the news and government is all over it...IMO.

Had a Cobalt...but I didn't put 8 lbs of keychain dangles on my ring...which is a factor here.

The media doesnt advertise the Japanese car recalls like they do the American cars, you can tell they are biased against American cars. Toyota and Honda are the recall kings....

Millions more added to the list. Total for 2014 is now over ELEVEN MILLION VEHICLES ON THE RECALL LIST. It just keeps growing.

Forgot to mention, this Sunday nite, 5-18-14, on CNBC at 10pm, they're running an hour special titled "Failure to Recall: Investigating GM". Saw a promo for this upcoming show which immediately goes into interviewing a family that suffered a loss due to GM not notifying owners of the defects.

Set my DVR, interested in seeing who is behind this show, and how will they portray GM.

WTF is up with all these recalls, and not just GM either seems like everyother day you hear about someone else issuing recalls too.

The only thing is that GM knew that it was a problem. Yes I agree that people shouldn't hang heavy key chains, but I can't feel bad for GM because they knew that the ignition had this problem. They deserve what they're getting because it killed 13 people.

Back after all this started Mary Barra stated that this will not happen again. If she hears of any possible safety related defect, no matter how small, she will personally order a recall. I think this is why you are seeing so many now. They are getting caught up.

machines don't work forever and the other issue is an industry based on profits ... if safety was ignored GM should get what they deserved. pray for all affected .

GM is in PR recovery mode. Recall everything in light of the keychain fiasco.

I wouldnt worry about it. They are trying to some serious PR and legal protection.

Camaro btw, hasnt hit the list (yet).

But just keep in mind this is more political than quality issue right now.

The promo for the CNBC Sunday nite show, 10pm, starts with a gravestone and a father saying something like "my child died over a 57 cent part" also saw another promo saying something like "and they knew about it, but did nothing, as if people don't even matter".

I can picture all the lawyers salivating as they swarm like sharks in bloody waters. Very interested to see if this show is an attempt to set an image into the minds of the viewers that GM deliberately neglected safety. It can be very difficult to shed a negative image.

CNBC just had another segment updating what they titled "GM Recall CRISIS". Stating that GM was given the max fine from DOT of $35 million. To which the interviewer said "that's not much of a fine". And got a response of "that's only the beginning" the Department of Justice is still investigating (criminal investigation) as well as two Congressional investigations. This fine is to cover DOTs butt.

Plenty of dissatisfied customer interviews whom survived engines shutting off and the nightmare process it took to get the dealership and GM to buy back the vehicles. Dealers blamed the owners, your too short so your knee is hitting the ignition switch and turning off the car. And they have the paper trail to show how many times they took the car in complaining about it shutting off. Everytime the dealerships blamed the owners one way or another, in writing.

Oh, and the funny part, the former Cobalt driver is shown driving......you guessed it, NOT IN A GM CAR. and the segment ends talking about how furious these owners Must be with GM and all their lies.
