One example: 2009/2010 5.7 Challengers running within a tenth or two of 2009 And 2010 6.1SRT challengers despite being 50 horsepower down on paper. Why? Because the 5.7 put down more torque lower in the rpm range then the 6.1. This helps overcome the inertial mass and helped acceleration. Past the 8Th mile the SRT does pass the Rt.

Dodge Hemi Motors have very flat torque curves, and the Hellcat motor puts out 411wheel torque right off of idle, and goes up from there right across the rpm range. That is essentially an eraser to the weight disadvantage the Hellcat suffers against the Camaro.

Strap a stock Hellcat, ZL1 and 5.8 GT 500 on the same dyno in the same conditions, compare the power curves and I think you will see why the hell cat runs so fast
Completely agree.... I have tried explaining this in other threads here , but most are in denial with responses of weight and peak hp determines everything...My friend would hang pretty close within .1-.2 tenths with his 5.7 VVT vs My 6.1 both on drag radials and same bolts on. After the 1/8th is when I would pull hard and the gap would widen to .4-.5 tenths

Kind of late to the party, but, I am super excited to see this thing released to the public. Pretty fast times stock and even better with Radials.

The price tag seems pretty fair @ 59K, however, a bit out of reach for me at this time. Not sure if I like the Hellcat Charger or Challenger more.

Both are pretty sweet.

If torque was an answer, then a Spark EV econobox would hose most exotic cars off the line. 400ftlb at the motor at 0 rpm, 0 mph.

But torque converters and clutches are magic. The true effective rear wheel torque can get really high regardless of engine spec.

I'm pretty sure the tesla sport models already do this

I dont know what the ZL1's curve looks like, but if you'll check out the GT500's, most are making well over 500 RWTQ after 2000 RPM.

Bone stock my ZL1 dyno'd 535 rwhp and 513 tq. It hit 500 tq at 3000 rpms and carried right past 5000 rpms.

Back on topic (sorta).. This car will be sooo bad ass.

Here is the curve although units are Nm. To convert to lb-ft multiply by 0.7376. Torque at 2000 rpm is ~455 lb-ft

Auto?...YES... but again...Whats killer electronics? Uh, Dave, Corvette ZR1s are Stick-only, and therefore much more difficult to run phat consistent times.

Does the Hellcat run high-11s with a Stick?

No one knows what it runs, that has never been revealed by Dodge.
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...t_first_drive/

Jonny Lieberman, in the Viper-trans'd 6-Speed manual, ran an 11.8 (reported on FB) "with a 2nd gear start, because it was slower when launched in 1st"... Insufficient traction with the OE 275s. No wonder Dodge is reporting DR times, ESPECIALLY with the Automatic and its killer electronics.

Killer electronics: "Activating the Hellcat's launch control system is wonderfully simple. Push the "launch" button on the center stack, step on the brake pedal with your left foot, mash the gas with the right, let go of brake, and voilą." And then, purpose-engineered ELECTRONICS take over...

Killer electronics further explained by Edmunds: "While the Hellcat may not be lightning-quick through the curves, it is breathtakingly fast in a straight line. On Portland Raceway's quarter-mile drag strip, power and technology come together with impressive and easily repeatable results. We chose the easy route with the eight-speed automatic, which amounted to hitting the Launch button in front of the gear selector, pushing hard with the left foot on the brake pedal, stomping the gas pedal to the floor, then releasing the brake pressure completely. Wheelspin is moderated by the launch control system and shifts are violently quick. All you have to do is steer and keep your right foot firmly planted.

Trying to achieve these times without launch control will likely be a lesson in futility. There's a razor-thin line between adequate wheelspin and a massive burnout billowing white smoke.
"

LOL...I was thinking ZL1...hit me upside my head...

I just got word today from a guy who was at the Hellcat media event about the 11.8 with the manual.....I posted it all over that big Challenger forum.....but you just confirmed it...I didn't know it was using 2nd gear either....It has a tall first gear and still cant hook?....crazy....

Do you have a link to that facebook???

You keep blowing off about killer electronics. WGAF really? That's like saying it isn't fair that a ZL1 is faster than an SS because it sports a killer supercharger or that a Z/28 handles better than a ZL1 because of the killer brakes and killer tires. News flash! I'm sure that GM has more technology and resources than Dodge in the killer electronics world. Hell many other car companies and other types of companies use GM technologies. So they could have done killer electronics. Oh wait a minute, they already do in the ZL1, and new vette. The difference is the Dodge got tired of being third, and they have the balls to do something about it. Face boys, on a drag strip and the numbers of ponies beating on the hood to get out, we are thrid until GM steps it up, and I'm sure they will.

My POINT, mentioned many pages ago, is the PHAT TIMES @ RACE TRACK HIGH are run with an AUTOMATIC transmission fully enabled by an integrated electronic launch control system.

NOT on the 6-Speed manual models, who have a similar weight-to-power as the much tamer (only 662 hp) GT500s...which do NOT have the luxury of an Automatic "and killer electronics".

THAT'S why, on 275 OE tires, you can fully expect a Hellcat to run similar times to the now-obsolete GT500, when the Hellcat, too, has a Stick.

And the tests are proving that fact...

HIGHEST HORSEPOWER!! Yes, and the HIGHEST WEIGHT, too...which CAN be compensated for, AUTOMATICALLY.

It's the BOSS 302 scenario, all over again. WHICH ONE? There are/were TWO, and a Stick Hellcat doesn't wanna be too boastful (unless it's been BOOST-FULL!) around the GT500.

Only if they start in 2nd gear ..................

Talk about a handicap........I will get it to hook in 1st and see proper low 11's and hero 10's
