It seems like there is quite a bit available for the 03-08 5.7s, but yeah, the 09 5.7 is a whole new beast of sorts LOL

Exactly. The factory already did the hop ups that the aftermarket guys provided for the previous generation 5.7L. The heads are now very high flow (higher than even the SRT I've read). Add to that the VVT and it's like a turbo boost at about 3K RPM.

Those changes allowed the motor to put out about 50 more horse power than the previous design.

hey speedy, did you say you had a chance to drive a new camaro SS yet? i'm just curious to how different it feels to our R/T. a neighbor of mine has one and we both want to try eachothers out to feel the differences. hes got a real nice SS2. very sweet ride i gotta say. would love to line up against him sometime before he starts modding since mine is stock too. curious to see if i can keep up!

Not yet...it's on my list of to do's. I may rent one as the local renta cars seem to have some.

I'm sure you'll keep up no problem. The power delivery of the R/T is quite different from the SS. Torque comes in earlier and gets the car off the line and our 3.92 gears help as well.

Now if the Camaro had 3.73s.......

what do the SS2s come with in terms of rear end gears?

also, for anyone with an SS2, does the power come on late with great top end or midrange or what?

Dyno graphs show power comes in later and less torque over all.

The SS 6 speeds come with 3.42s I believe.

Sure, you've got me all figured out Judging from the context of some of Hemi Dave's other posts, I honestly thought this one flew right over his head.

oh ok. thanks.

can anyone with an SS comment on how they come out of the hole? wonder why they went with the taller gearing?

Back when I was looking at ordering a Camaro, it was rumored that for 2011 there'll be a 3.73 option, but who knows.

I think they went with the taller gears for gas mileage. That's the only thing I can think if in a car with 20s. I love the 3.92s in the Challenger. Feels like it could pull a tree outta the ground.

for sure. she's definatly got some neck whipping ability! love catching my girlfriend off guard and hammering it!

i'm thinking on renting an SS if possible to really hammer on it a bit to see what they can do. dont want to do that with my neighbor's, thats for sure. would feel bad handing it back to him with rubber on the rear fenders! really chomping at the bit to get some seat time in one of those beasts!

We'll see, I may just be smokin' something too.
If that Z28 comes out its should be a Killa.

If I got the extra coin I would get it but I am keeping my R/T

It was a nice car. The first thing the dealer said to me was hey there's one of you and your dad (parents were with me.) I was like "No I'm fine, I'm just looking since I already have a 2010 Camaro SS." His smile just went to a frown after that sentence lol. He was said they were nice cars, but didn't do the originals too much justice. I agreed with him there, but that is the only thing bad he said about the car. I would buy one if I didn't have the the Camaro. I'm planning on going to a Ford Dealership today to see a 2010 GT close up.

The Challenger is the most Muscle Car, the Mustang is the most Sleek, and the Camaro is somewhere in the middle.
