AFM Engaged While in 'M' and Using Paddles

I probably should look in the friggin manual but lately the AFM still kicks in intermittently even in paddle-shift mode. Granted, I have a Range but it will do it even after removing it and restarting. I suppose some ECM confusion could still be happening. I know, I know, chuck the Range and tune er out! All in due course...

Anyone ever have this happen in paddle mode? (2015 2SS RSS)

From what I understand, manual mode with paddle shifters doesn't "disable" AFM. It gives you the ability to keep your rpm's up high enough to keep the AFM from kicking in.

To disengage afm using paddle shifters simply downshift one gear at anytime then up shift.Example ...i would leave the driveway in 1st..change to 2nd before the stop sign in my street. Downshuf back to 1st at the stop sign....then just change gears accordingly after that with no afm engagement. It worked great o the highway as well

If my memory serves me right, my AFM never kicked in while I was in Tap Shift.

I am tuned now, so I can't confirm it for you.

I drive almost exclusively using Tap Shift and absolutely love it. Yeah, it's still not a manual, but you can have a hell of a good time using it. The behavior of my car in Tap Shift mode is like night and day difference. Even better after I swapped out my stock 2010 wheel with the stupid buttons for a 2014 ZL1 wheel with decent paddles.

Having AFM kick in while using Tap Shift would be a real bummer.

It kicked in using tapshift. I drovemy car like that for 2 years before getting tuned. Aftermarket exhaust really makes it noticeable.

On my 2010, AFM will continue after you start tap shifting, but will be disabled as soon as you do one downshift.

There's nothing about this in the manual, BTW.

My car gets tuned on December 5th, so no more Range Device for me, but if I’m driving around in sport mode at say 65mph and I accidentally hit the downshift paddle will it just go down 1 gear? Are the paddles “idiot proof” if I let my daughter drive the car?

If your rpns are to high it will say shift denied. They also gear down to 2nd on their own if yiu do nt do it yourself when stopping.

I don't know about your model year. In 2010, the shifter had to be in M position for the paddles to be active. In some later model year, the shifters became short-term active in D, so you could downshift to pass without moving the shifter. After some number of seconds, D would resume.

In M, you can downshift multiple gears until you reach "shift denied" to prevent over-revving. At 65 mph, you could go down to 3rd if not 2nd gear.

This is correct certainly for my 2013 model which is the same year as Royal Tiger's....

Try this - place the shifter in M, upshift on the paddle until the "shift denied message" appears downshift to first or a lower gear. you should see an M on the display (instead if S)

You should be able to shift on the paddles without AFM activating... at least that's how I used to overcome AFM on my 2015 before my tune.

Guys.....ive been posting this for 5 years. Afm disengages when using the paddles by down shifting once then up shifting once right away. I did this for 2 years before my tune. It works.

Try this.....drive out your driveway paddle shifting into 1st. On the street change gears till your in 3rd. Slow down a bit the downshift to 2nd......then upshift back to 3rd. Afm will stay disengaged until you go into D or out of tap shift mod.
