I passed up 3 different base-seat cars to buy one with Recaros, but I'm a thin enthusiast. Those with heftier butts and/or bods will be potentially a bit uncomfortable. The Recaros also have more agressive side cushions and bolsters which are a slight ingress/egress issue for less enthusiast-oriented drivers. Since the Recaros are pricey and you're buying for the wife, I just wanted you to have the info for your decision-making process. If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. Personally, I wouldn't buy a V without them, but save your money and marriage if they're not comfy for her. I've owned many cars in my 47 years, and I've had less buyer remorse with the V than probably anything I've owned, including M5s and E AMGs, etc. You won't regret buying the V. And, yes, there are several tuner options if you're so inclined. |

We are going to start looking and we will look into the seat option carefully! When we met, (25 years ago) she was driving a big block Chevelle! She has owned many performance cars since. Chevelles, BB Monte Carlo (w/ swivel buckets) tons of vettes, camaro's, SC Thunderbird, you name it. All researched and sought out by her. Our intent is to acquire one and send it to Lingenfelter Performance for some "upgrades". I really appreciate your post, thanks for sharing!

My parents had one for four months as a CTF car from GM. Let me tell you the CTS-V is one of the most wicked cars I have ever drove. The only complaint they had was that it had the racing seats and they were pretty hard but their older soo... The best thing about that car its really a sleeper. There are like 3 badges on it that say its a V but normally "average" drivers have no clue that its a V. It is really fun on the highway messing with corvettes and absolutely dusting them. Yeah it is quiet but its a luxury car so its supposed to be. The only downside I thought was that because its so quiet, when you step on the gas for 3 seconds just to accelerate, you look down and go OH SHIT im doing 100 mph. Overall I thought it was an awesome car, definitely fun to load it up with friends and show them what a real car drives like. As for your wife driving it, it depends on what kind of driver she is. If she likes to throw rubber down like the rest of us she will LOVE it. If not, it might be a little too peppy for her, but on the plus side you'll get to drive it once in awhile!

Oh yeah and your in IL so you would definitely need snow tires. We couldn't even get up our driveway when there was snow on the ground and its practically level with the street. We picked up a set of Pirelli's for the winter and it was a night and day difference. After we were able to plow through the snow. Ill ask and see what model they were. We still have them and thats what I am gonna throw on my Camaro for the winter.

I'm divorced/widower/remarried, and the most I've gotten is tolerance, especially with my sportbikes. Having a wife who actually shares your car addiction is pretty rare and enviable. If she had a BB Monte with swivels, she'll probably love the Recaro seats. From your description, I think the V is maybe the perfect car for her. Personally, if I were in a financial bind and had to dump a car, it would be hard to choose between the V and the ZR1 (and that's sayin' ALOT). Best of everything to you both! Enjoy your "Cadzilla". |

I don't generally even do avatars. I might take some pics sometime and throw them up on here.
They're both bone stock, at least for now. Z is Black/Black, 3ZR, Chromes. V is Black/Black, Manual, Recaros, Nav, Roof, Suede, Polished. Black is beautiful... BOTH minutes it's clean! Lol. |

Get ahold of C Love over on the Modern Muscle forums. He lives in Chicago and has a CTS-V with the LPE 630hp pulley and tune upgrade. I'm sure he would love to get together with you and show it to you.
Here is a link to one of his threads. http://www.modernmuscleforum.com/showthread.php?t=3079 He's got some connections at a local dealer and might be able to help you with a purchase too. J |
