It's...PINK! (WMU's C425 Conquest I "Pinky)

Yep, that's right. The official color is "desert sands" but the story was that the brown/tan tinge actually bleached pink in the North African sun where the P-40s using the scheme served. As such, it was then turned a pink color to counteract the bleaching (and they ended up being known for it..). Sue Parish, one of the major benefactors of the Kalamazoo Air Zoo and a major player at Upjohn corp (and by association Pfizer I believe) purchased the plane new in 1984.

She painted it in the same color she painted her personal P-40. Desert Sands. Why?

Every square inch of this plane is pink, from the landing gear to the FRIGGIN TOILET!

Her Husband had a matching '82 Conquest I which had a blackhawk conversion to the engines pushing their output from 350SHP per engine to 750SHP. Sue, not wanting to be out done, did the same conversion. It's a bonafied beast, and yes.. I am cleared to Taxi it under CFI supervision and a buttload of permission slips for class. She's currently grounded for a corrosion check and some instrument fixes but yes, it could fly in a heartbeat.

Turns out the aircraft is going in this month for that big NDT/Corrosion check in Kalamazoo, so it'll fly for like 5 mins and land at KAZO. Get stipped out inside and out, and get a full check.

So I believe that's the last time we'll see Pinky taxi at KBTL before she leaves to get a checkup. :(
