Perhaps Shanahan knew something, a 28-3 lead was not enough to hold back a championship team such as the Pat's, thus the quest for more points. If the Falcon's were successful in gaining 1 more point before overtime they would have won. Running down the clock doesn't add points and having more points at the end of the game is what wins. Now there are two ways this happens, you stop your opponent from getting points or you get more points, Atlanta failed on both accounts. What would have accomplished this, one of two things, better plays or better execution of plays, that's why I say Atlanta failed from the coaches to the players.

If the team that is behind does not have enough time to score the required points because the team with the huge leads burns the clock down, the odds are HUGE in favor of the team with the lead!

As already stated no team in the HISTORY of the NFL playoffs had EVER lost a game with a 19 point lead in the 4th quarter! Why? Because the all played the EXTREMELY SIMPLE PLAYS that gave them the best chances of winning.

Again, when your in a boxing match that is 12 rounds and you win the first 9, there is no need to do ANYTHING else except stay away from your opponent for 3 rounds and burn the clock.

This isn't rocket science!

When running the football gives you a 99.6% chance to win at one point of the game, and a 98.1% chance at another point, you don't go against that by calling a play that has a much higher risk!

ATL offense NOT running the clock out directly correlates to NE having 5 possessions, instead of 3 or 4. It's an easy concept. More clock being chewed off by runs, equals less time for the other team. Again, 90+ plays for the Pats offense means the ATL offense didn't run the clock down. Hence very poor situational awareness from Shanahan.

Sure, doing nothing but runs to chew the clock still could have failed with fumbles/etc, but at least then you can say Shanahan went with the high probability play, to win the game. What every other team in the playoffs has done in....forever, and never lost when up by that much. By running the clock out.

How do you stay away from an opponent who keeps on coming.

Have you ever seen a boxing match where the loosing fighter gets a lucky knock out punch, ever seen a Hail Mary pass win a game. Ever see a dominating MMA fighter loose because of an unexpected take down. In a few years there will be another Superbowl game where 1 team is leading by 28-3, won't be able to say no team has ever come back from that kind of deficit to win.

If the Falcons followed your advice there is no guarantee they would have won

I'm not saying they made the best play calls although I am saying the plays called were not performed well. If the plays were better or if the plays were executed better the outcome would have been different that's why I say it was a total failure on Atlanta's part.

PMC, I feel you. "Poor situational awareness from Shanahan." I believe he was very aware of the situation. He want to stomp on the pats and bring home victory. Better execution would have assured this result.
"What every team in the playoffs has done in forever" . Just cause it worked in he past doesn't guarantee success in the present. Maybe this was in Kyles mind in going for higher risk, higher reward actions.
If Atlanta ate more time, what makes you think the Pats wouldn't have played faster, or went for bigger chunk plays? It's all hand and glove, one sides play and strategy dictates the other teams respones. Thanks for not resorting to calling me names just because we have different opinions like some people. I appreciate it, thanks.

again, no one is saying it's a guarantee win. But it's the smarter, more probable option, if you want to win. Then you force the hand to the Pats to do more chunk plays. More plays that are less probable of happening. Less percentage plays like deep bombs. Heck, you even give the pats less opportunities, by running the clock down.

In the history of playoff football, has Tom Brady and Bill Belichick been down 19 points in the fourth quarter prior to Super Bowl 51? No. So you have NO data to establish any type of percentages against THEM. Now, that percentage is 100% that Tom Brady and Bill Belichick will come back from a 19 point deficit in the 4th quarter because they have done it. 100%. The only time they were down, they came back and won, that's one hundred percent. It ain't rocket science and your not a rocket scientist and that is Sonny Liston on the mat. Have a nice day!

Your post said Foreman was ahead and won every round. THIS IS NOT TRUE!

YOUR A LIAR!

Your posting a picture of Liston proves what? NOTHING!

No point in continuing on. YOU DON"T HAVE A CLUE!!!!!!

THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS POST LIES!

The data proves 100% accurately that ATL had two possessions on offense in the 4th quarter where they were a 99.6 % and 98.1% favorite to win the game by running the ball. This is undeniable, irrefutable, truth.

Post all the lies you want.

This is the TRUTH.

Takes one to know one. In that post I said that was Sonny Liston on the canvass. You said everything in that post was false. If so facto, you Joe Moron are a 100 percent liar.
What data? The only data available on Brady and Belichick being down 19 points in the fourth quarter of a playoff game states they win 100% of the time, that's a fact, so keep living your statistical fantasy.
Boxing is a notoriously crooked sport, especially with Don King promoting. At most Ali won the first two rounds, then he laid on the ropes for the next six, including most of the eighth round when he knocked Foreman out. But then you never saw the fight. You just googled the judges scores. Any one who actually saw the fight knows George was wining the fight overwhelmingly. Doesn't matter what the judges score was, cause it didn't go to the cards. Go watch the fight so you can speak with knowlage, instead of just 'google'. Better yet just stop talking. Have a nice day!!

So because you can copy and paste a picture of Sonny Liston, that allows you the option to post complete stats on the Foreman vs Ali fight to make a comparison to the NE comeback??

Oh I see now.... It doesn't matter what the actual TRUTHFUL scores on the cards were, it only matters what Kenny thinks they should have been.

Oh and now Ali won the first two?

Which one is it? None or two?

You post the inaccurate untruthful stuff, and I'm the one who needs knowledge?

You already proved in this thread that you don't even know the difference between a FG and a XP!!!!

HILARIOUS!!!!!

Another fantasy, how is it that I don't know the difference between a field goal and an extra Point? I stated that the missed extra point was shorter then the fantasy field goal attempt your delusion is fabricated on. Also I stated that " at most" Ali won two rounds. Not that he did. Go watch the fight, you have never seen the whole fight. If you would have, you would know George dominated it. The whole point of the rope a dope comparison is off center any way. Ali won the fight in the middle ,round 8, not the end or overtime like the patriots did. I stand by what I said. You just keep trying to change the parameters of your week theory on to something else ,because that's what people who are losing an argument do. Lol!!

Captain Butthurt will still be crying, yes, that's you Joey. And trying to do anything he can to shift the non stop whining about his 'statistical facts', that actually don't apply, onto some other subject that he can apply a statistical analogy to, that doesn't make sense because it has as many,if not more holes in it than his football rant. Think they can go back to back? Six, that's almost surreal.
