2) It's not priced to compete with the GT500. It was priced to compete with the 2009 Mustang GT.
3) The GT500 sells 12-18k units a year, though it may not be officially, to me that makes it a limited production vehicle. Whereas the Camaro had as many presold orders. It was meant to sell as many or more units than the Mustang GT.

Reasons One might consider them Immediate competitors:
1) They're both the current top model in the muscle/pony car segment from their manufacturers.
2) ???
3) Profit!!!
If these guys want to refer to the GT500 as a direct competitor for the Camaro SS that is their prerogative, although I would disagree as I personally feel that is unfair to the Camaro. That said, the statement they make regarding the Camaro besting the top level Mustang can only mean one thing taken on its face, that the SS somehow bested the top level Mustang offering which would be the GT500. Either we take the statement at face value and accept that this is indeed what they meant, or they are guilty of poor phrasing. No matter how you slice it, these guys screwed up somewhere.

How I Found This Forum

DGthe3 -
I had a friend who knows the best automotive forums recommend you. Also, you did pop up quickly in the Google search. I am enjoying all the discussion. Remember to tell your friends to get over to the site and vote so the Camaro can be a finalist and, who knows, maybe the ultimate winner.

Immediate competition = Mustang GT.
Top performing version of immediate competition = Mustang GT Track Pack.
Camaro SS out performs Mustang GT Track Pack.

Seems simple to me.

Alright, I butcher my posts regularly because, as my wife regularly reminds me, I spent so much time immersed in the English language that I now feel that I have a sort of carte blanch to do as I will with it in casual circles. That said, take it from somebody who was an English literature major before switching to economics/business, and who is now married to a journalist, that is not what that statement actually says on its face. (anybody wondering why this bothers me so now knows the reason) If the meaning that you derive from that statement does indeed reflect the author's intended meaning that is wonderful, but that does not make the statement itself accurate.

Am I picking on the author a bit here? Absolutely. However, I am holding him to no higher standard than I would myself were I conducting a journalistic endeavour, even if that endeavour were taking place online. At best the statement is poorly phrased, at worst it could and has given the appearance of an inherent bias to some. As a journalist, the author should care enough about this matter to fix it. Although, the mere fact that this error somehow slipped by him in the first place is disappointing.

I love how there's not a single truck on the truck list. I also love how the Nissan Cube made it to the semi-finals along side the Camaro and the GT500... lame.

",,,,will select from among all new or substantially revised cars, trucks, SUVs and CUVs introduced from November 2008 to September 2009 and select the Internet Car of the Year and Internet Truck of the Year."

My guess is the reason there is no Toyota (or Mustang for that matter) on the list is they have nothing that qualifies as "all new or substantially revised" in that time frame. Nothing more than that.

I do love the kitteh quotes. That said, journalism is serious business, and we should expect better from journalists even on the net.

Another thing that caught my attention...the Corvette isn't on the list. Arguably, the most iconic car in American history with a rich history in performance, sales, racing, and a horde of fanatics, and the Corvette's void is filled with a Nissan Cube, or even a Mazda 3? Perhaps the poll meant to take one or two cars from every corner of the "car" market, but it doesn't appear that way since it is simply the top 7 cars in the so-called semi-finals.

The top 7 cars should reflect the top 7 performing cars with consideration for bang-for-buck, over-all quality, as well as other choice fields of recognition. A real top 7 car list *should* indlude autos such as; Corvette, 911, BMW "M" series, Mercedes "C" class/AMG, Camaro, Mustang, 370Z/G37, MazdaSpeed MX5, G8 GT/GXP, Evolution, STi, etc.

And a real truck list *should* include the Silverado at the very least. If you could include at least one, single, real truck, it should be the Silverado/Sierra. But honestly, the Titan, Tundra, Ram, F-series, Colorado, etc deserve that list more than the cross-over mini-van abominations. You can't take a list like the one posted seriously without a single, well known truck name on it.

But of those, which are new/redesigned for 2010?
