Nothing wrong with collecting them...I'm 47 and have been collecting diecast cars,mostly Camaros now,since 1997.

I've been meaning to get to Walmart since I saw this thread but I just bought a set off eBay for $18. Easier than dealing with Walmart.
I am 35 and still buy some every once in a while although not as much as I used to.... real car parts are more fun now haha I need to count them but I probably have around 500

well I think you are all doing it wrong. Hell, I take mine out of the box and play with them. They are lined all over my cubicle at work. People stop by, chat about them, we move them around... yeah, again...Toys are meant to be enjoyed. If someone stops by my desk with their kid, and the kid reaches for one, I give it to them to take home, enjoy and have fun with.

K-Mart is having another HotWheels auction Feb. 18th I'll be there at 8:30 for the 9:00 start.
The wife and I usually buy extras to pass out at car shows to kids. I let them reach in a bag with out looking. They have to take the one they pulled out. I probably have at least 100 extra 5th Gens to pass out this summer.
