I know some will say that Atlanta choked and in some small way those people might have a point, but in my opinion it was more of a case they faced probably the greatest 4th quarter comeback quarterback and a team of talented receivers that football has ever seen. Atlanta wasn`t the only team to have seen victory snatched from the jaws of defeat by Brady in the last few minuets of a football game, it`s been an ongoing theme for a lot teams over the years and Atlanta just happened to be in the way of another Brady comeback. People will hate Brady and refuse to admit he is a great if not the greatest quarterback in football but that`s only because he plays for New England and not their team!
A GREAT GAME PLAYED, CONGRATS TO BOTH TEAMS.....But someone has to win and someone sadly will lose.

I'd say it was all of the above and I'm a lifelong Pats fan from MA. Superbowls used to be terrible with blow outs every year, but the last 2 have taken an emotional toll on me. It's almost not fun anymore to watch because it's too stressful. I was a wreck the entire game and can only imagine what poor Dan Quinn must feel like after having it snatched from him twice in a row. I really feel bad for those guys and their fans because I know what it's like when your team loses. Those driveS (PLURAL) cemented his legacy. No one's ever done that, ever.
And for all you old time, hardcore Pats fans, that direct snap play for 2 on the goal line hasn't been run since Kevin Faulk. That was my favorite call of the game.

You can do that or give credit where it's due to the greatest QB to ever play the game in the history of Football. He made some Godlike 4th quarter throws to Martellus Bennett (Former Cowboys 3rd string tight end) and Julian Edelamn (7th round draft pick). |

I agree 100%. The man brought us back from a 28 point deficit by almost entirely passing the ball in just one quarter. All the while (at least in regulation time) our offensive line gave him no time, and we could barely run the ball all game long. He did make a mistake with the interception but Atlanta played hard the whole game. They ran out gas physically and maybe emotionally in OT, but they didn't give up and coast. The coaches made some play calling blunders and the Freeman didn't block on the Hightower sack, but I don't think they coasted at all.

Kyle Shanahan lost this game for the Atlanta Falcons. While Brady did have an incredible performance in the game, the opportunity was given to him due to the horrible play calling of Shanahan.
A Jr Varsity HS coach has enough sense when you have a 25 point lead with 24 minutes left in the game, you don't throw the ball. You run it. Burn the clock. He called only 5 rushing plays the entire second half. Atlanta has the ball first and 10 on the NE 22 yard line with 4:40 left in the game. You run the ball 3 times, force NE to burn their last 2 time outs, kick the FG if you don't get a first down. Your up 11 with under 4 minutes to play. NE needs a touchdown, 2 point conversion, an onside kick recovery, and 25 yards or so to get in FG range to tie. With no timeouts. Worst play calling ever in the history of the Super Bowl. SF 49er fans have nothing to look forward to with Shanahan taking over next season.

Shanahan will pick the 49er's up from a disastrous season... even if he doubles the wins from last year, he's earned his pay.

Doesn't a completed pass keep the clock running, even if you go out of bounds and it isn't the final 5:00 minutes of the fourth quarter? Isn't Atlanta a passing team? Hind site is 20/20, they passed because that's what they do. They were running incredible well in the first half and had a big gainer in the second half. But three sacks on third down when they needed to pass to get enough yardage to get the first killed their drives, or better yet, the Pats defense stiffed them the entire second half.

You can say Kyle Shannahan 'lost' the game for the Falcons, but he didn't. He didn't let Tom Brady score 31 straight points. The players did. The play's he called were not 'bad' plays, they were plays that were not executed by the players. Players play the game. Players win and lose the game. Blaming a coach is just an excuse people use to make themself feel better.

[QUOTE=LesBaer;9544586]You're absolutely right too. The game was over if they ran the right plays...
Not if the players don't execute the plays that are called. The Falcons win the game if they execute the plays that were called, like the Patriots did on five straight possessions. That's the difference in the game, execution in the clutch, the winning time of the game. Face it, the Falcons got " BRADY-ED" ![]() |
