You go from 180F to 220F you loose 16hp. You go from 120F to 200F you loose 32hp. You want the best ET on the track you run engine cold and rear end warm to hot. Professional Drag Racers shock cool the engine with a high pressure tank down to 45F, launch at 100F and never exceed 160F on run. Of course you will never see an instance where you can or want to use this but I thought I would point out how Pro racers go to extremes to cool the engine for more power. I have seen many times at NASCAR qualifying events where they would shock cool the engine after some hard laps and pick up a full second! Cooler is better to a point. On stock street engine 160-180 is ok.

Night before last I took the car out and used my HP Tuner software logger to log some acceleration runs. The car has 1565 miles on it. I logged ten runs from standing start to 1XX mph (I am not saying how fast) Here are my best 0-60mph times throwing out the ones I messed up on. This is the STOCK tune.
5.02 5.08 5.03 5.09 5.10 5.008 I think that looks pretty good for a stock car with a oil change, loud mouth II exhaust, ported throttle body and a cold air intake.

I've read the thread and I'm wondering if you have to do the "computer reset" to the manual tranny, only thing I remember seeing about this was talking about the auto tranny, can you clarify on this subject or tell me what thread goes into detail on this?

Darin,
What do you think of your New Era CAI and why did you choose that one? My 2SS is scheduled for production this coming week.... the wait is almost over. |

I like it. I like it a lot. I like the way it looks and everyone who sees it thinks it looks really cool. I personally like it because its a true cold air intake that takes the air from the front of the car in front of the radiator. In the logged runs from HPtuners VCM scanner utility I can see the air temp as I drive around. On a hard acceleration run I am only one to two degrees above ambient. Its also very strait with slight bends.

Darin,
After picking it up from the dealer, how many miles of doing the break-in do you advise before getting the oil change? I know you said to do hard accelerations as far as up to 90mph, but is their a certain rpm that we shouldnt hit or stay at?? o and on as far as warming the engine up should we let it sit in idle for 10-15 mins or is it better to just go and drive it around the city doing 20-30 mph for 10-15 mins, before you start doing the break-in??? Yeah, i know your probably thinking is their anything else i want to ask.. lol, but i really want to know what im doing and get it RIGHT the first time.. So the car will perform at its BEST!!

driving around with light load is always the best way to warm a engine up. warms up quicker than letting it sit there and idle

Do the first oil change at 500 miles.
