there are rear end 'accidents' - my wife was entering an interstate in the ACCELERATION lane, when she looked over her shoulder for her 'spot' to merge, the old lady in front of her panicked and slammed on her brakes, causing my wife to rear end her. is that 'negligence'?

That's a crappy situation, and unfortunately a common one. By law, it's on your wife. I taught my oldest daughter (20) to slow down on the ramp and make sure the merge lane is clear before she accelerates just because of the number of idiots that drive out to the end of the acceleration lane and then just stop. Mostly elderly.

My car goes in the shop tomorrow. Usually she's hibernating by now with the snow we have had!

That's always the one thing that worries me when I have my GTO out: some other jackass is going to slam into me and total the car. Like you, I have agreed-value insurance on it, so at least I am protected, but it isn't like I want the car destroyed.

Hopefully, you get the car back good as new.

Yeah I think we should remember that accidents do unfortunately happen. Of course it is always incredibly annoying when they do.

I'm still waiting to get my car back. I'm hoping for today. I haven't see a revised estimate yet but it's north of the original 1K with the extra parts.
