I have been, good food (if you like blackened stuff, which I do), lots of bars, the garden district was nice, and the air boats rides were fun. But, be prepared... as I thought it was pretty dirty, smelly, and except for a few areas was pretty run down.
...and do not call it new orLEANS. It is called new orLANS. |

Go to the zoo and see the white alligator... at least they used to have one. The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas... .. and for food... go to http://www.williemaesnola.com/

I 2nd the dirty city comment. Tujagues is really good. Be careful how far you walk down Bourbon Street unless you like gay bars.

I work out of New Orleans, my office is across from the Superdome.
Get Uber if you don't already, other wise taxis are every where. If you're flying in don't waste your money renting a car. If you're driving in, it's usually $30 a night for parking. There's a lot to do, use trip advisor, or yelp to find stuff you want to do. I don't ever stay in the Quarter, I like the CDB/Convention center area. It's a short walk to the WW2 museum, short taxi ride to the quarter and generally quieter/cleaner. Also some great places to eat with out the tourist crowds, Pesche is an example. |

I stay here... close in, pretty cheap, and relatively clean... street cars are within walking distance...

I've stayed at the Royal Sonesta (300 Bourbon Street) a few times and have never been disappointed. It's right in the heart of the French Quarter, with some of the rooms featuring balconies overlooking Bourbon Street. You'll hear some noise from the street in the balcony rooms but I don't mind as the sights are always interesting.

Pat O Brians is a must. And depending on when you come down in January, try and catch a Mardi Gras parade. New Orleans native here
