I'm still can't understand how Ford built 5,522 GT350's for 2016 production year (only 475 were the GT350R) and they are holding value, while the Z/28 (only 1,800 total built) is going down in price! WTF!

The uninformed and disbelievers continue to hang on to this concept of a sticker price then fall to their knees bowing down to the sales rep believing they are getting a 'sweet deal' at 5%, 10%, 15% or more. The reality is the item was 33%, 50%, 100%, 1000% overpriced to begin with depending on the industry. The number of thesis papers written about the psychology of sales, pricing and the sheer sizes of manpower devoted on increasing sales is absolutely mind boggling. Black Friday and the price of televisions is a great example of this, whatever price the TV is the day after Thanksgiving is the same price of the television the weekend before Super Bowl and it's been that way for decades and will continue to do so decades to come. Much of the auto industry has adopted the same sales scam in more aggressive forms over the last ten years. Those experienced with truck sales have been seeing this for awhile already. The "true value" of an untitled new Z/28 has been 60k since 2014 and today, anyone paying more paid a premium to secure ownership and be one of the first. Today, once it's been titled and if there are less than 1k miles, it's worth 50k RETAIL and closer to 46k from a private sale. Trade in value around 44k and cash (think pawn shop) maybe 40k. Supported by current comparables on the market at the moment. Add more miles and things get go downhill from there. At this time, "Depreciation" on the Z/28 is $15,000 if and only if you are able to receive a $45k trade/private sale. The only real way to make money off a vehicle is to let your company purchase the vehicle and depreciate it, recouping up to 40% of the cost from the IRS. Believing it's possible otherwise would be a delusion. Chevy is currently offering 20% of most anything 2016 in inventory through a variety of combined offers, just like they have been every few months for a few years now...and just like they shall continue to do so. It's Ford, their supporters are fanatical about the Mustang though much of it is sales hype. Many dealers have held dinner invite only auction events to sell the fabled 350s and talked the vehicle up to be some sort of mythical creature on 4 wheels. Again, it's about The Art of Making the Sale. I know people that have sold ice to another while standing on a iceberg, then reached down with an ice pick, dug a chunk out and handed it to the person. Corporations are learning how to evolve and change their sales tactics to keep pushing sales where none should exist and push the envelope beyond belief. |

The answer is that Ford supporters are nuts (FYI - I come from a Ford family and I wanted a GT350R but wasn't stupid enough to pay six figures). So yes supply and demand is one theory, but with under 1800 made I would also say there are a lot of owners out there who are freaking out and selling their cars for far less than they are worth. Worth being what other car can you buy at the $50k price and perform as well all day on a track? The same thing happened with the Doge Daytona. Dealers could not get rid of them and now they are worth millions. Not saying the Z/28 will get there, but I just don't get why people are paying more? I guess I'm also asking why are some owners selling at such a loss? That is just as stupid as paying too much for a car! I mean the car does everything is was said to do and is better on the street than advertised. So why so many selling?

Car and Driver just ran the Lightening Lap. The "almighty" GT350R was a full second slower on a newly paved track, than the Z/28 was last year. I've said it before and I'll say it again, once all the desperate dealers sell the remaining new Z/28's at heavy discounts, the value of used one's will go up. The Z/28 isn't a car that's still being produced or will be produced again.

I still say no more 427's in Camaros or Vettes, unfortunately at some point the General like Ford will head towards biturbo six bangers... I hope we keep our V8's but I fear the coming fleet fuel milage regulations supported by Dear Leader and the rest of the progressives.

These prices are inline with what a local dealer had informed me about moving / pricing their Z/28's as a 2yr old used vehicle once they hit 24 months. There is a ton of fancy accounting on the back end allowing them to hit this low, dealers need to move the cars. Used, they are flirting with 41-42k. |
