I don't know what the rules here about posting store sales... but Cabela's is having their Employee Discount pricing from pricing 9/22 thru 9/26. Got the email w/ coupon last night.

Supposed to be able to get everything in the store from 10% to 50% off depending on brand.

M&P 9, VP9, or FNS-9? I turn 21 in a few months, and want to get a handgun.

All great choices... do not discount a Steyr, also a great choice.

I have both the M40 (almost 15 years now)... and now a L40.

The M40 was my CHL gun in TX. Love love love the gun. I have nothing but praise for it... and so far, nothing but praise for the L40.

Find a range close to you that rents those hand guns and shoot each one you are interested. Think of buying a handgun like buying a car and do the same kind of research. Look at the gun forums good and bad for each. Everyone is going to have different opinions based on what they own and prefer.

In hand guns I prefer a Colt 1911 or springfield style handguns.

Other factors include target or self defense pistol? CCW permit or just in the night stand draw. Those all play a factor. I was taught a gun is a tool and you pick the best tool for the job at hand. Some tools can carry over to other jobs but usually not as well. This also gets into calibers. Assuming you have already picked 9mm by your choices. Then also how easy it is for you to field strip and clean. Reliability etc.

Good luck on choosing your first gun. You will most likely enjoy what ever you choose.

Just a plinking gun for now, but I'll probably eventually get my CCW. I have a model 700 in .270 that my dad got me for Christmas 5 or 6 years ago, but it's only had 5 or so rounds through it. Not the tool for what I do (not hunting)

Are you thinking about using this for your carry gun or are you going to buy another once you get your permit?

I do not own a 9mm for self defense but I have thought about buying one to plink with. Super cheap ammo. Although if just plinking might as well use a match .22lr. You can get those about the same price and it is about the most fun for a gun to start off with. Hardly any recoil and depending on the grain of the round it shoots really flat and will make you more accurate. When you go for your CCW then you can pick a round that is better suited for stopping power. If you can shoot all day for $30 you will practice and have more fun. I am going to shoot tomorrow to sight in my semi auto .308 for the first time with iron sights. I probably will go through $20 just to sight it properly out to 100 yards iron sights. Then add my scope and probably add another $20. So tomorrow I will most likely go through $100 in ammo and that is Walmart Federal at $17.50 per 20 rounds. Might be one of the reasons you have not shot the .270 that much. For $100 you can shoot almost 1000 rounds of .22LR, About 500 rounds of 9mm. The more you shoot the more you will want to shoot and keep going is my experience. Plus you can get alot cooler targets to play with for .22Lr. Just my $.02

CZ75 & clones are pretty nice in 9mm, many variations from different mfg's, plastic lowers, SA, DA, Polygonal Rifling, etc... I'm too old school, pistols are steel not plastic... so I'm probably not the best advice you'll get for your first pistolero.

EAA imports the Tanfoglio line of CZ clones, the high end models are very well made.
