I kid.

Foreigners with English as a second language get a free pass from me.
I agree with the free pass for for ESL folks... they get all kinds of credit for TRYING, and there's no question that mastering English is no piece of cake. It's easier for those of us who have been immersed in it for our entire lives, but those who grew up with an entirely different language have it pretty rough.

There are also lots of folks who are excellent at their job but can't type a proper sentence to save their lives. Another free pass.

It's that, "Grade a fish by how well he climbs a wall" wisdom sometimes.

Agreed, to a point... however, when I have no other factors upon which to make a decision, if the choice is between hiring, doing business with, or entering a contract with a person who exhibits a decent attempt at getting it right, vs. some clown who aint gots no Clue At alls and doesnt seem to give A rat sass, I'm going with the one who strikes me as willing to learn, to try, and to put their best foot forward.

That's understandable. A good example is from reports I've been reading from ww2. Lieutenants seem to be terse, matter of fact in their reports, but mostly very well written. As you go up in rank the reports usually are written with a flair not seen by lesser ranks. Some might say it's because of time restraints. I personally think it's years of knowledge about the subject, and the wisdom to turn words into art. That and a really good secretary.

Then there's the words that have been misused for so long, their meaning has changed... Like "Rims", or "Decimate".

Um please explain . Rims is plural for rim meaning more than 1 . Or do you mean Rims being used as a slang term for wheels ? Decimate means to murder or destroy .

We need a "Driving 101" thread. First topic....what the left lane on the highway is actually for. Hint, it's NOT to go 2mph over the speed limit.....the whole trip.
