Or, for a simpler, but less permanent solution (if you are still wanting to avoid adhesives or drilling), a piece of string tied to the bottom of the door, and the other end wrapped around the doorknob.

I have a medical condition/mental handicap that requires a lot of sleep to keep in check and am an addiction counselor. Keeping my house dark allows me to sleep whenever I get a chance and be available to clients whenever they need me.
