Whatever you are most comfortable/confident with, but why not give .40 cal a shot?

another option. I wish the new range they're building here would open so I can try out some guns. I really want to shoot a Shield.

They're very nice to shoot. I think all M&P guns just sit perfectly in your hands

I EDC a S&W SD9VE. M&P firearms are he cream of the crop for me, however, I do not EDC them.

Incoming Reasonings:

9 times out of 10, in a self-defense situation, if things are not clear cut (video proof) the police will confiscate your weapon and keep it for the duration of the investigation in holding. For me personally, I would rather them keep my budget weapon.

Why 9mm?

As all responsible permit holders know, in the unfortunate case that you have to defend yourself, you are responsible for each projectile. That said, where I am 9mm offers the most affordable defense (Hollow Point) ammunition to reduce penetration and collateral. Likewise to match the Capacity capabilities of the 9mm with a 45, you're really adding weight to your situation. Sure, "Hurr Durr, if you can aim you only need one shot" but most of the time violence of action wins the day and I'd rather have it and not need it, then to shoot through 4 car doors 8 times.

Just my opinions, good luck!

9mm simply because of ammo capacity and availability. Its cheap to shoot, you can find it anywhere, and can hold a considerable amount more than a larger caliber gun.

Its all I have, keep a XD9 subcompact in the car at all times and carry a Springfield armore EMP chambered in 9mm. I highly suggest shooting an EMP but warn you that you will want one lol

The essentials. 9mm, $100, flashlight, pen, pocket screw driver for adjusting 2 step, and a couple spare fuses

The XD used to be my carry gun, but now I prefer the EMP, being single stack it is more slim. Plus the 1911 trigger is unbeatable
