Driveline loss. Takes power to move the parts to move the wheels. Automatics are worse because it uses hydraulic pressure from the transmission instead of a straight gear to gear drive system.


Also, new guy here. 21 And am a tech at one of the local Chevy dealers

so the engine is producing 335 horsepower, but like you said about driveline loss, it ends up with an estimate of lets say 220 - 250 at the wheels due to parts consuming power?

My rough calculations are always this:

Engine HP * .85 = Manual Transmission Rough Wheel Power
Engine HP * .80 = Automatic Transmission Rough Wheel Power
