New DD: 2016 Golf R

Just picked up this lil' sleeper-in-the-making last week. 'Just a tune away from being an 11-second car. Don't worry. I'm keeping my 5th-gen for weekend fun and getting ready to bump up the power on it some more...

Awesome daily. I flirted with the GTI and R for a while. And then my wife decided to go back to school.....

Did you cross shop the Chevrolet Sonic? That seems to be a comparable vehicle to the Golf.

The 2016 Golf R has 292 hp. They start in the mid thirties. To get it with automatic and some features flirting with basically and Audi S3. In the same competition as a Subaru WRX STI. If you live up north the awd and 4 doors make a good daily driver. I had looked at a the vw and audi lines before buying my Camaro. The adult family person side went towards a diesel until all the deception. The Op is right though a simple tune and it will push 380hp. Although you will find it gets about the same gas mileage as my 16 Camaro v8 if both on cruise control at 55mph. Kind of like the Mazda 4 cylinder turbo. Good power and fun to drive but when you boost it sucks fuel.

Really cool car. Congratulations. My opinion is biased on VW but not many people will expect your Golf R unless they really know VW.

Yeah, they seem overpriced until you know what you're getting--basically a hatchback Audi S3. 292 hp, AWD, but also the perfect blend of economy, practicality, and performance. Stock DSG automatics (like mine) have been recorded doing 4.5-sec. 0-60s. I picked this one up for $35,600 (2k lower than MSRP), so nowhere near S3 money.

I love the WRX STi. One of my favorite cars.

I'm usually a pretty rabid German fan boy, but too many electrical issues on the newer VW's. Same with Audi sadly.

I see my 2.0T RS Camaro as in the same competitive arena as cars like this. Basically the boosted 4 cylinder cars. I almost purchased a 16' WRX sport but the Camaro was really what excited me.

Intake/ downpipe/ tune and Ill be competing very well in this class!

Lovely car by the way! AWD makes me a tad jealous!

Yeah, AWD was a big attraction for me. So was the blend of practicality, economy and performance. I like the new Camaros, but I needed something roomier and already have a fast 5th-gen I'm unwilling to part with. Congrats on yours, BTW. 'Sharp car, for sure!.

Last time I checked the golf R fast list, its far from a tune only 11sec car. They have stage 2 and-3 on a tires and they cant get put of the 12s. Impressive car though, a bit over priced IMO for a compact car.
