Last time I checked, which was a while ago, there were all kinds of rumors about the next generation corvette coming out in calender year 2018.
Some of the rumors
It is coming out in calender year 2018
Middle engine
Multiple layers out options
Hyrbrid option

All rumors until a prototype is seen driving around and or a concept is shown. I think they will have this one under some extremely tight cover to ensure no one finds out what they're doing until they want us to know.

But I think someone said the Z06 is at the limit in terms of power and ability to put it on the ground so who knows what they'll come up with next.

Seems too soon to me...C7 only came out as a '14. 5 model year run on a Vette? Doubtful...

Last few gens went much longer.

C6 - 9 years
C5 - 8 years
C4 - 13 years
C3 - 15 years

This just popped up on my YouTube feed.

3 yrs should be enough to pay off this car and use it as a down payment on the c8

Technically there was an interesting looking mule a while back, a Holden Ute cobbled together with a C6 cabin and venting into the Ute bed. Most people took that to be proof GM is testing something mid-engined.

Competition isn't standing still. Trucks were all new for 2014 and they'll be replaced for 2019.

Yes, but as we all know the trucks were a disappointment. The C7 was far from...

My gut tells me if this happens then, it will just be a halo car with the rest of the C7 line continuing on for a while.

...I fail to see how the trucks are a disappointment considering sales are up.

Article suggests all testing is at night and being run out of an Area 51.

When I worked for Nissan we did testing at night when we needed to remove camo for wind nois and NVH testing.
