Again Im sure its a beast of a car, but they couldnt of decided on a more lame duck name. What was wrong with the shelby gt500? Why not just a shelby gt750?

I dunno. LOL but its a silly name. And it looks like someone went crazy in the JC whitney catalog to rice out their car.

Top-of-the-line Mustangs were never "Cobras" until Ford made the decision, independent of Carroll Shelby (who ended their original relationship in 1969), to offer an appearance package on the 1976 Mustang and called is the “Cobra II”. (BTW, there was never a “Cobra I”) This work was outsourced by Ford to another company (ala the Camaro SS to SLP) and it ran through 1978. In 1978, they also introduced a “King Cobra” Mustang which was the first pony to ever wear the 5.0 badge but, again, this had nothing at all to do with Shelby Automobiles.

The “Cobra” name disappeared from Mustangs for many years after that until the name was applied to the 1993 “Cobra” Mustang, produced by Ford's in-house performance division, SVT. The name carried through as the top-of-the-line Mustang offering until 2004.

So you see, the term Mustang Cobra only came to designate the highest performance level for the Mustang in the early ‘90’s, so historically speaking, the “Cobra” name has only been associated with high performance in the Mustang for a relatively short period of time in the 45 years of Mustang production.

When Shelby and Ford reconciled in the early 2000’s, SVT had already engineered the S197 version of the Mustang Cobra but the decision was made, with Carroll Shelby’s blessing, to call that car a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. True to its origins, the car does not carry the “Cobra” name (no Shelby-modified Mustang ever did), but they did carry over the coiled Cobra badging that had become synonymous with high-performance Mustangs.

Yes, the coiled-Cobra badge did first appear on the 1967 Shelby Mustang, but they were never called Cobra Mustang’s

You know the other name for horse snake is SEA HORSE so therefore the Mustang Shelby Super Snake (Horse Snake/ Sea Horse) is the first car to be able to go under water and drive.

Hmmm, /pulls out his Chinese Calendar:

Snake* Horse

Outlook is doubtful…there is to much to fight about.

Sorry, Snake/Horse is incompatible. Snakes should try Oxen, Rabbits, or Sheep.

To this in a couple of days.... thats pretty good

His response:
Are you really that big of a moron? Please tell me you are not. GM makes the Charger, Challenger, Camaro and 300. They are all based off the Zeta platform which is why they all feel the same or VERY similar to drive. Is the Evo based off the Acura's platform? Is the Lexus based off the Infiniti platform? Didnt think so. Yea, those cars dont feel anywhere near the same to drive.

after that he post the GM money article and everyone pretty much clowned him and it went downhill, until he got pissed called us all fanboys and told us he didn't need us or our stupid forums.

For everyone cracking on the Stang I thought I would add this for fun.

As the car neared it's release date it still did not have a name. Among those considered were "GM", "Panther", "Chaparral", "Wildcat" and even "Nova". Buick ended up making use of the Wildcat name while Nova went on to become another muscle-car of note. The GM idea was ditched because the corporate powers did not want the letters associated with the car in case it was a market failure (you can bet they're kicking themselves for that decision). Finally they came up with a word that they thought had no meaning and sounded sporty… Camaro. When asked what it meant, Chevrolet product managers told the press that it was, "a small vicious animal that eats Mustangs."

Not to be outdone, the nice people at Ford found a different meaning in an old Spanish dictionary that defined the Camaro as "a small, shrimp-like creature". Taking the joke even further, some journalist found another alternate definition that meant "loose bowels." In response the folks at Chevrolet found an old French dictionary showing that the word meant "Friend" or "Companion
