I think it is a neat car and so does Jay Leno.

I'll make you a bet. if you were to drive that car the way it's designed to drive you wouldn't get the 220 mile range on it. maybe 90-100 miles but not if you keep trying to drive fast with it.

Actually, thanks to the regenerative braking recharging the batteries, driving the Tesla like you stole it doesn't have nearly as much of an impact on the range. If only we could find a way to make regenerative brakes refill the tank on a gasoline-powered engine... :P

The Volt introduces the E-flex platform which will certainly yield a car like the Tesla, and probably within a few years. Downsize the Volt and replace the engine/generator with more batteries and you'll have something not entirely unlike the Tesla, on the same electric car platform.

They have to build the Volt first because it will have much more market acceptance, even though it's less sexy.

My point was that it is possible to build a car for every day driving that does have the range. If you read about the car you will see that the 220 mile range is based on average driving. Not high performance, it's like running your Camaro all out and getting 10 MPG or driving smoothly on the interstate and getting 27, It is all up to you how many miles you get on a charge/tankfull...

Sell it as the ultimate commuter car Got to admit it looks much better than the Volt or any other electric car in production right now...
