Thats basically how the cushman was. It was a 3-speed, but not a 3-on-the-tree (I tried driving one of those and I couldn't figure out which gear was which) - and the shifter was on your left instead of right. No power steering, basically no brakes at all. You launched in second, used third when you wanted to go faster, and used first when you wanted to stop.
