Random question

If a car company were to go completely out of business (Just gonna use Chrysler as an example), if I were to buy a 2008 Crossfire and Chrysler went completely out of business next year, what would happen to the warranty coverage that they were suppose to provide in the event I have problems?

Wow, that would really suck. Be 2 or 3 months into your 3 year warranty and all of the sudden anything that goes wrong is on you to pay for it.

Before Chrysler( or ford ) goes out of business I am sure they would be absorbed by a bigger company, hmhmmm GM? or merge all 3 to crush the imports....

That's a really good question. Is that fact?, that the warranty is GONE? Or, would that be sold off to another company to do repairs for your vehicle? I guess it would be gone, right? Ugh...

Yeah, I would imagine that someone would buy out their assets and assume some of the responsibility for fulfilling any obligations the company made. I doubt you'd see a company as large as any of the Big Three just disappear.

I remember reading about when Chrysler bought out AMC, and Chrysler was mandated by the government to fulfill a recall on a heater core on certain Renaults that AMC had been selling, but it didn't matter if the car was running...it had to have the new heater core. There were stories of people at Chrysler having to track down all kinds of Renaults, and even if they were sitting rotting away in junkyards, they had to go to them and deliver the heater core and put them in the cars.

I agree; it's extremely unlikely that the company would completely collapse and disappear. It's far more likely that some company will buy the remains and be responsible for the warranties. It wouldn't be great for Chrysler customers, but it wouldn't be disastrous either.

I thought abot them merging so they are a super car maker but they all would keep the name and gm would be the name for all them in general.
