Of course, this will vary based on where you buy it.

But the question of cost ignores the fact that the diesel is likely the better engine if you actually plan on doing trucky things with the Colorado. How much is that worth?

The payload difference between a V6 & diesel appears to be 20lbs, in favour of the V6. Its not going to be a factor for anyone.
Sorry, DEF. I forgot how technical we must be here. The national average right now is almost thirty cents higher for diesel. Here it is more like thirty-four. That's the lowest gap here in years, and I doubt it will stay that way. It's hard to say if depreciation will help the diesel Colorado or hurt it. I guess that will depend on how popular it becomes. If they hold their value better that may help offset some of the other losses. I guess I don't get it because I use trucks differently than it sounds like a lot of you folks do on here. If I need to pull 7,000 lbs, which I do often, I just don't think I would feel comfortable doing it in a small truck even though it's rated for it. I'm not running this truck down either. If I was in the market for a small truck, I would be all over the V6 version.

In my area diesel has seen massive price swings. There were times where it was a dollar more a gallon than 87 times where it was 20 cents cheaper a gallon than 87. Right now diesel is around 15 to 40 cents more a gallon at the stations near my office

Around here diesel has been in line with 87, a little lower at times even. I saw diesel for $1.99 a gallon a few weeks ago.

I would love that. Here, many years ago it was way cheaper then 87. I know states taxation
has a lot to do with it. I would be all over this truck if that were the case here.

Considering premium fuel for the Camaro I drive is more expensive than diesel where I live, and the diesel gets better mileage, I'd say this is a pretty wise investment.

But then again, if something doesn't work for your specific situation, then it must be a bad idea across the board...

Not saying it's bad for everyone, but it has to be good for enough or GM doesn't profit from it. That's why I raised the question. I'm not towing with my Camaro or concerned with fuel milage as its a toy and not a daily driver. What fuel it takes doesn't relate to a vehicle that is being marketed as a "mini work horse" of sorts with good economy. I brought up diesel cost, maintenance, higher MSRP to raise the question of,in the real world, will it be.

What is the fuel mileage while towing it's 7,000lb load? That may or may not be a selling point.

My interest in the Colorado/Canyon is that I need a truck but do not need/want a full size truck. I have had Silverados in the past but they have gotten bigger than I am interested in dealing with around town. The reason I am interested in the diesel is not so much because of the towing capability as it is the torque when off road, the mixed use fuel economy should be about 10mpg better than I am getting now, and the long service life.

I'm a ways out from a similar point. Too much to do before I get there to estimate when, but the short list for complimentary vehicle has, for a while, been, older el Camino of some type, S10, or a Colorado, all largely dependent on financial considerations when I go to pull the trigger.

My need to consider off road time is minimal, these days, but something with a bed for all the household things, hauling yard waste or home improvement maintenance waste over to the municipal facilities, transport of anything large or cumbersome for the house or car, all the utilitarian uses for a vehicle is my primary consideration.

Another platform to tinker with and modify is secondary, but most of the reason an S10 or the el Camino are on the list. That an el Camino would represent a lot of temptation to eventually go down the restomod, power tour, drag week route, may fit in both the pro and con columns.

If I were just looking for utility and reliability, diesel Colorado would be about the entirety of the list.
