I sorta look at the 350 and 350R like the BOSS and BOSS LS. That may be a bad assumption on my part. Even if it is an underestimate of the difference, it would be a big jump in performance to get to Z06 levels. Look at the times the listed. The 2015 vs 2011 Z06 is less than 16 seconds. That is after adding about 150 hp, 150 tq, 200 lbs, stiffer chassis, MRR, and more areo. Comparing the 2012 BOSS LS to the GT350R you see less increase in hp and tq, added MRR but a reduction in weight. It is hard to see how it can be 18 seconds faster than the BOSS, which is what it would take to get to the Z06 time at VIR.

The next GT500 will be more of competition for the Z06. The GT350R was built to take on the Z/28, not to jump into the exotic territory the Z06 now inhabits.

Yeah the GT500 would be the big dog. Ford does usually have a Mustang for every level of competition for GM.

I don't think it's too far fetched to see a 350R within a second of a NON-Z07 C6 packaged Vette. The wheels and tires on that car are apparently beyond phenominal.
Now the top tier versions of the C6Z and a new C7Z...no, not so much. And it's highly unlikely a GT500 will go after any Vette minus straight line and power comparisons.

I will take that bet, too! There is no reason why a GT500 can't be the straightlline bruiser that it has been known for and also utilize the same track set up that so far seems to prove awesome on the GT350R. If the 350R is on par in corner speed/grip with the C7 Z06 and the difference favoring the Z is in the straight portions of the track, the GT500 will No Doubt erase that. But we wait and see. Meanwhile, the Z is killing the million $ exotics. LOL

The weight difference alone will ensure there is a noticeable gap, will it be much closer than ever? Probably. But remember you aren't getting GT350R weight with 700HP. You are likely getting 3800lbs with all the strengthening and setup needed for FI. The GT500 should definitely benefit from MagneRide and R&D with the GT350. Also I'm sure aero will play a role and the C7 is definitely lower drag than the Mustang body. Will be interesting to see what they can come up.

I guess it's in the beholder.
I love cubes...hence my 5.8 (355) Shelby. But I'd gladly take 700+/- in a 3700 pound platform. And yes, I'm totally sure these track monsters are more fun. DONT CARE! Power = America

I thought it's on par with the Porsche GT3 (and a sec faster than the Z/28) at Grattan Raceway... and it was the GT350 (non-R) that was on par with the C7 Z51? At least that's what was reported. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...at-camaro-z-28 |

Where the hell are the instrumented tests for this car? I want some data and a video of Randy driving it.

Ford had a knack/habit of letting everything come from.a 3rd party.
Get used to the waiting club. Or as most GM fans say, tbe realization of fail.... I hold my opinon.
