Hoping this is not true.
I currently work as a yard manager for a tile facility and part of my job is to keep the forklifts, as well as all of the mobile equipment, properly maintained and running. In doing so, there are quite a few companies I work with and I deal with many of the salesman and managers. Today I had a new salesman and his manager come by for a meeting to discuss a new PR contract for the forklifts.
We spend about 10 minutes discussing the contract, then we start talking cars. Turns out the new guy worked as a service manager for a Chevrolet dealership for the past 13 years. I told him I had a new v6 Camaro and he said that those were good cars. The v6 in these cars was well built and he hardly saw any problems with them. Same for the v8 models. Whew! We picked a winner guys and gals!! He did mention to stay away for the new Corvette. Whu!??! He said that car is plagued with problems and he's seen more than one leave the lot and come back the same day. He mentioned that its going to be like that unless they completely re-engineer the car or fix the bugs. He went on to talk about the drive train and some other items.I was pretty amazed, and disappointed, to hear this. That is, if it's true. I mean, that's one of the badest Vetts around, not to mention, that all Chevy fanboys and girls want this dream car. I know I do....or did. I hope that he was wrong or maybe just blowing smoke. Having never owned one, I can't say but I know there are some people here who own them, so I'm sure they'll debunk any bullsh#t. Your thoughts?

I haven't heard anything aside from normal new car teething shit. I would go GT350 over C7 though.

OK...I've had my Stingray since May of last year. I've put over 50,000 miles on it. I've done a few track events, however most of my use has been crisscrossing the U.S. In other words, I've driven it and enjoyed it.
All but one of my issues is what I'd consider minor, and were all repaired here in Seattle after having issues with the place in Durham. The long term annoyance is an issue with the drivers seat and the track. It's apparently a known issue that they don't have a fix for yet. It really only affects things if the seat is fully retracted and lowered. Since you can program where the seat will retract to, you can set that 1/8 of an inch forward and won't experience the issue. Other Stingrays I've checked don't do what mine does. Essentially the presets don't work properly on my seat when the seat is fully retracted...there's physical resistance that I believe cuts the switches from working until you move the seat forward from the seat control on the side of the seat. I had a drivers side mirror that the controls to adjust it no longer did anything. Apparently the Durham service department forgot to hook it up again when investigating the seat issue. Did I mention I stopped going there because of other issues I had with them? Of course they forgot to hook it up again. Sigh. My center display started acting up, like the contacts were no longer working. This happened right around 45,000 miles. They replaced the screen under extended warranty. I had one recall they fixed as well. Overall, this car is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone. All of the stuff listed above is mostly minor except for the screen issue. We'll see how many screens fail on the whole fleet of C7s in a few years.

I have not seen any "real" issues with them and have found no "engineering faults" other than some hard to access bits here and there like one would really expect anyway.

well I think I will have to pull the BS Flag.....
the only issues I have seen or heard about are relatively minor.....no more than any new car. O personally drive mine every day.....have put 16500 miles on her in the last 6 months, the only time I have been back to the dealer was for my free oil changes.

The one C&D had for a long term test blew the motor just after 6,000 miles. They also site that the car has had many other problems and has been one of the worst they ever had for reliablility. It's the first year R&D that manufacturers sign up people for, without them knowing, when they buy a first year model. I got signed up with my first gen 5 Camaro. I won't buy any more first or even second year models.

Whether that is sound science or not, I agree with that. I've owned some first- year- of- this- model cars and experienced nothing but heartache and pain. I seem to have had better fortune with cars that have been on the market for a couple of years, and presumably the manufacturers have corrected a lot of the bugs since the debut. My experience is purely anecdotal, and someday I may even violate my own 'policy,' but, I do make an effort to avoid first- run models. |

Over similar periods of time, I've owned other new cars (Impala & Lumina) that had as many, if not more issues over time...and they were not first-run cars.

I don`t think I would put a whole lot of faith in a person who used to be a service manager for a Chevrolet dealership and is now selling fork lifts for a living. Seems to me it would be a career down grade unless selling fork lifts pays more than a service manager for a dealership does.

I got a first year of the new body style Impalas. It hasn't made it more than three weeks without breaking something. It truly is a pile of shit... but it seems we have no other frequent flyers in the service department, so I just got the lucky one.

I left a high six figure job because of stress, then ended up getting into service management as a favor to a friend in my semi-retirement and now here I am getting all stressed out again. I can understand leaving a high paying job for a lower paying less stressful one.
