No, I couldn't afford it, my family made too much for financial assistance, I didn't feel like getting into $80,000 of debt and it would have cost even more than that to relocate to Eugene.

It's a fantastic school tho.

I hate that. Gov automatically assumes that because a family has X income, they can afford to send their kid to college. I'm kind of in the same boat

Yep. When I got out of HS I worked and took a year off from school, saving, etc, and when I went to apply for FAFSA the government said my parents "expected contribution" was in excess of $22,000 a year. Mind you I come from a middle-middle class background and my family was always comfortable, but never "rich".

Basically my options were buckets of student loans to go to UO or I could get my bachelors at another Oregon school for less than 1/4 of the cost and be able to work my way through, only taking student loans when needed to fill the gaps.

Thus why I have my degree but only about $14,000 of debt vs enough to buy a C7Z

I wanted to just get my ATP (Airline Transport License-1000hrs) license, and go job hunting, but now a lot of the legacy carriers (e.g. Delta/United/AA) require a bachelors on top of that. I'll be in really deep, but maybe it'll pay off in about 20yrs.

Louisiana has a program called TOPS and Florida has it too (Bright Futures) and the government covers your tuition as long as you maintain a 2.5 gpa. But everything else isn't covered.
