Kind of funny you posting that.

OP eating great is a good start but you can eat the best, cleanest food in the world and it will do nothing to improve your muscular, skeletal, and cardiovascular systems.

Get to a gym and train.

I am going MWF & other days as work allows. Otherwise I do stuff at home. Tried a weight training class & ended up down in my back for a couple of weeks. Thanks for the offer but for now I am going to stick to what I know. Not worth it to be in that much pain.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger sure i'm eating great but i'm really sore from doing the gym two days ago and am planning on going again. I used to be a bodybuilder back in high school and lost it all during college.

I feel your pain:
I got on my wife's Nordatrak machine and injured my back after only 3 short
times- Brisk walk. I'm now on pain meds (tramadol) so that's the end of that.
I believe its more calories in, calories out, so thats my plan now.
I go on a photo site caller www.shorpy.com Check it out if you want to see what people
looked like 75-100 years ago. There was no fast food &/or junk food readily
available back then- Everyone is skinny !!! Calories in, calories out imo.

It literally is 70% what you eat, and 30% exercise. Also if you have a set workout plan lifting weights to get swoll, always do 4 sets instead of 3. it gets your ripped way faster and do abs everyday

There's always going to be an "accomodation" period anytime you try something "new" and give effort. Taking up CF in addition to still somewhat regularly "lifting heavy" I am sore and in pain every day. Know what though? I will stay the course, I will endure, I will conquer. It will pass and I will come out on the other side even better.

Do what you want. I am sure we will see another New Year's "get Ruby motivated thread" in 5 months.

Insanity....doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

If you hurt your back on a Nordictrak the last thing you need to do is sit. Your skeletal and muscular system is weak which is how your back got injured.

So you think "being skinny" is healthy and a better way to go through life?

Compare a marathon runner vs a sprinter. Which do you think is "in better shape" for going through life?

I do think skinny is better than overweight. How many heavy people do you see in the retirement homes or fat people in their 80's ? Very few. The less you weigh the better. Also, I'll be sure to let my doctor know your opinion on how I strained my back...

If you are talking about body fat then of course you are right. If you are talking about lean muscle mass you are wrong.

Your last statement proves my point. If you "strained" your low back doing a Nordictrac it just shows how weak your back is.

And when you ask him that, be sure to ask your doctor how much time they spend in a gym training for a healthier, stronger body.

Prior to last year, I was eating the worst food you can imagine. I was never overweight (5'8" 150 lbs) so I thought, eating bacon double cheeseburger and rib eye steaks should not be an issue.
Wrong!
Last September, I underwent open heart surgery at age 40. I completely changed my lifestyle since although I still consume alcohol every so often.
