I think that it is ugly and very generic and resembles the Kia very closely.

"Ugly and generic" controls this segment. The Corolla is butt ugly, but #1 every single year. If this segment was based off looks the Mazda 3 would be the runaway winner.

The Cruze was the 3rd best seller in this category last year. I think this new Cruze will keep it going

GM's start/stop tech feels light years behind what the German automakers are putting in their cars. The Malibu's bothered me as well.
I hope they've improved upon it for the newer models.

Did chevy copy from Kia? Of course not. Why would they? I agree on that point. As far as that fact that you guys can't see one similarity, I'm on the side that these two and many others are very similar due to the constraints we all now modern engineers have on them. That's all I mean. I know from reading you guys posts over the years that you are all very intelligent and knowledgeable, and it may be that that keeps you from seeing what people say when two cars look alike. Really, it doesn't matter in the end what we think. If the public thinks they look alike, regardless if true or not, then it doesn't matter. It's a case of perception out weighing fact.
Similar is one thing, same/copying/'just like' is another.

All cars in just about every class share basic proportions -its a combination of competent engineering & expected styling. In that sense they are similar. But beyond that? There isn't much that could make one say any two are the same.

I should add that I tend to have fairly specific definitions & connotations for words, such that few words are 'interchangeable' to me. I know I'm not unique in this regard, but when talking to people in person it only leads to minor aggravations that are quickly resolved ('well if you meant X, why didn't you say X!?!'). When communicating with people strictly via text, coupled with regional language variations, it can lead to presumed misunderstandings that might not actually exist.

I haven't seen it in person, but from the pictures I liked the last body style better.

This new style does look nice on the hatchback though, just not on the sedan.

(Sorry for the old thread. I just came upon the 2016 Cruze on Chevy's site.)
