I think this is the article I saw. Stage 1 300hp, Stage 2 375hp, Stage 3 450hp http://gmauthority.com/blog/2014/07/...-cadillac-ats/

Heard nothing about that. Might be under development still or put on hold because of the rash of 2.0T ATS failures (Regal and Malibu 2.0T seem fine, for whatever reason(s) ).

You are fully entitled to be confused. Strange as it sounds, medium duty trucks come in above the heavy duty pickup trucks (which are technically 'light' trucks, though some might be pushing it these days).

Trucks fall into 1 of 8 classes, divided into 3 groups:
  • Classes 1 through 3 are grouped as 'light duty and include everything from compact pickups & small city vans up to 1 ton pickups (350/3500 class).
  • Classes 4 through 6 are 'medium duty' and include 450/4500 type trucks from the Detroit automakers up through 650/6500's. Dedicated truck makers like International and Freightliner pick this as their entry point. Think of the big U-haul trucks and other similar 'big but not huge' trucks
  • Classes 7 & 8 are the true 'heavy duty' trucks. Class 7's are things like garbage trucks, city buses, and small (1 drive axle) semi's. The class 8's the big guys. Big dump trucks, large semi's, cement mixers ... that kind of thing.

Where it gets really strange is when some light duty trucks have more 'trucking' capability than some mediums, specifically towing & hauling. Though this shouldn't be a surprise ... the same thing happens within the light-duty segment. Depending on configuration ... a V6 Colorado (class 1) might be able to tow more than a V6 Silverado (class 2).

That is crazy. I know the new Tahoes have more towing capability than the older ones. Quite sure Silverado is the same.

The rules are strange & cumbersome. Classes are based on gross vehicle weight rating (curb weight + payload/tongue weight). It can work out that a lighter truck with a top of the line engine can do more than a heavier truck with a similar engine. Think of it as a fit middle weight vs a flabby heavy weight boxer. About the same power, but one has to move around a bit less bulk.
