What is NOT even remotely acceptable is deliberately avoiding proof of innocence. In my book, that is what takes that officer from good guy to bad guy. He crossed that line.
Exactly. And I some people don't appreciate the magnitude of what that cop tried to do.

Just suppose that was me who was wrongly arrested. If left with my word verses the police officer, here's what would have happened to me.

- I would lose my license.

- I would face very hefty fines, possible jail time, and my insurance would be astronomical once I get my license back.

- Being active duty military I would be disgraced in the eyes of my unit. I would also lose a full month's pay, get 45 days extra duty (work until midnight 7 days per week), I would lose lose my rank and I would get kicked out of the military.

- I would lose my car (I drive an SRT Challenger).

- Being the sole breadwinner who supports a family of three, I would lose my home and my family would get torn apart.

But on the positive side at least that cop wouldn't have to admit to making a mistake. So at least there's that.

The guy they arrested admitted to passing on the shoulder. Now lets give the arresting officer a break. You see a black challenger pass on the shoulder at high speeds give chase, lose line of site and then see a black challenger passing on the shoulder. What would you think? Both guys pulled dick moves to me. Second guy still deserves a ticket, car towed. Passing on the shoulder is still reckless driving is it not?

Yes, let's give him a break. Because attempting to convict and quite possibly destroy an innocent person for a crime they did not commit while at the same time willfully disregarding evidence to exonerate said person, is an everyday ok thing.

The problem here is not the false arrest, people make mistakes. The problem is the unwillingness to admit / look into a mistake that RUINS an innocent man's life.

No, the arresting cop said the guy admitted to passing on the shoulder.

Big difference.

Passing on the shoulder in and of itself is NOT reckless driving. It's a mere infraction and merits a simple traffic citation.

Also, I respectfully disagree with your assertion that attempting to bury evidence that exonerates the guy he arrested is no big deal.

And oh by the way, this is assuming the police officer is telling the truth about the guy admitting to passing on the shoulder. And considering the complete lack of integrity he has demonstrated, that's a huge assumption.

Something more interesting to hear is the wrongly pulled over drivers account of what happened. Did he protest his innocense or say anything about another challenger passing him?

Also, I have a feeling the officer isn't getting off easy. Mr. Sarge did say that he heard some stuff from the room next to him. I'm assuming it was something like this:

I looked at the logo it could be a 6.4L Bee logo or the Hellcat it is hard to see, but the rear wing does not have a dip in the middle of it on the Hellcat but the Scat Pack does. I'm sure that it is a Scat Pack and not a Hellcat

Did you even read this thread? The arresting officer deserves FAR from a break or maybe the break he needs is one without pay for a certain amount of time. False arrest is one thing, yeah you can give him a break for that, but when someone tells the cop that he arrested the wrong person and can provide proof but the cop doesn't want to look at it I think he crossed the line big time. That's like the cop saying I don't care if he is innocent I'm going to ruin his life anyway cause I don't want to be wrong. This whole thread should be a wake up call that shows, just like the normal population, a small percentage of cops are bad. It really scares me to think how much of this was going on before the digital age and social media.

Appreciate it Scalded Dog. I'm no hero, just a fellow citizen trying to make things right where they should be.

Hey Mr.Sarge, I am a Hellcat owner and maybe will never buy a Camaro (I am too big for it ), but I created an account just to let you know that I respect what you did and wanted to congratulate you for being a good citizen. Also, my fellow Hellcat members from the Hellcat forum agree that you did the right thing and they appreciate you very much.

Thank you again and see you on the roads!

Mr Sarge,

You made me look up my ID/password just so I could say THANK YOU for all of your efforts to give this a positive ending. I'm human, too, and make mistakes but what happened here ... WOW. Nothing burns me up more than insisting that convicting "A" guy is equal to convicting "THE" guy.

MEGA-THANKS to Cal45, too, for being the first to notice it wasn't the same car. May your lottery cards always pay off and more lights are green than red - for life!

--Rick (another person who always drives with the dash cam running, just in case)

(Yikes! I really haven't posted here for FIVE years?!?!)
