The Camaro JUST came out (in one of the quickest development times they've every done, btw )...how does 4-5 model years before redesigning the entire car make them slow, again? I'd call it more a case of timing rather than being slow....

Heck. They may pop a Gen V engine in it for 2012...who knows?

Well the mustang just got redesigned aswell..
I was just saying that they very rarely get things out in time, as the mustang will be redesigned again and get impatient camaro buyers, while the camaro will still be stuck with the old design.

GM would need to release the 6th gen Camaro by the spring of 2013 to time with the next Mustang. Otherwise, they will follow behind the next Mustang...again.

I wouldn't be too worried about the Camaro being behind the Mustang. In fact, I would take it as Chevrolet's job to redesign the Camaro after the Mustang. Remember that Chevy built the Corvair which inspired the Mustang which inspired the Camaro as a direct competitor. Ever since then, Chevrolet has aimed to make the Camaro a superior product in every category, so much so that there are 4th generation Camaros that are demonstrating their dominance over brand new Mustangs to this day.

And by 1970 GM had a new Camaro, just three years after introduction. And that was before computers!

That was mostly an exterior redesign, though. I'm not certain about engines, but the chassis and interior remained largely the same.

I think a few years time will merit much improvement over the current car, though maybe not a full redesign. The team needs time to get used to it, because...besides name, this car shares NOTHING with the 2002 Camaro that many of them worked so hard on.

1970-1981 is considered second generation. It was substantially different from the 1st gen cars. GM could get a 6th gen out four years from now if they wanted to. But they'd have to make the commitment to lead, not follow.

Anyone know what's the deal with the 4.5 Duramax diesel for the 1500's? I head it was dead then recently heard it back on.

No, I know what the second generation is...my point was that nobody should expect such substantial changes in such a short time, they didn't do it then, and they can't do it now. Especially NOT before 2012 solely because there's no other platform to pin the car on besides Zeta. And if it's on Zeta, it's not gonna be very different.

I still don't understand what's so wrong about this model that you feel the need for a 6th gen already. The current car needs some massaging, but that's about it.
