There was a ton of fraudulent filings this year, more so then ever. My bet is most likely someone already filed a tax return using your info and already got their money. When you filed your return, it came across as a duplicate and it got kicked out.

This happened to me this year. Someone filed a tax return using my social before I did.
Had to go to the IRS to prove who I was and show proof of my "real" tax return.
The fraudulent return was kicked out but I still have to wait another 4 to 6 months to get my refund even though they know that mine is the real return.
They say that is the "process".
Did you have anthem blue cross insurance between the years 2004 to the present? My social was part of that security breach last year and may have been where the scammers got my number.

Well, just in case, I dug out last year's returns (same H&R office), and I will have my original birth certificate and my original social security card in-hand when I talk to them today. This will either be easy or a nightmare.

Had to tear my place apart to find my ss card. It got wet last summer when I was getting a puppy out of a pool. I took it out to dry it off, and damned if I could remember where I put it! Only took two hours yesterday and another this morning. I found my good watch too!

Good call on having everything ready. When I went to the IRS office they actually asked a lot of questions about my 2012 return to help to verify my identity. I also brought ss cards,birth certificates, marriage license(joint return),wife..

They put down some other number instead of my employer's EIN Me and H&R Block are going to discuss why I paid them for their "service".

But now I have my original ss card and birth cert all together in my safe. The good news is there's nothing to indicate my info was part of the Anthem breach.

F' H&R Block.

You want to know why your taxes get more complicated. Because the very F'ing people who claim to want to help you get your "Billions back" are the same assclowns making the tax code more difficult and thereby extorting additional fee's for you to do your taxes.

It appears H&R Block was the only tax-preparation company to lobby for the Democrats’ health reform push, according to lobbying reports.
In fact, H&R was the sole tax-preparation firm to also work on the Affordable Health Choices Act, a radical bill that proposed a “single-payer plan” of government-run health insurance.
The single-payer plan failed, but H&R Block went on to lobby for the successfully passed Affordable Care Act, today known as Obamacare.
Prior to 2008, H&R Block’s lobbying budget was relatively modest, hovering at around $80,000 annually. In 2006, the company paid nothing for outside lobbying firms.
In 2009, however, H&R Block’s spending on outside lobbying fees escalated to $1.7 million, according to data compiled by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics.

“You go from getting zero dollars from that person to $200 to $300 per person. With a couple of million people, you’re talking about real money,” he said.
H&R Block’s 2014 annual report explicitly says that Obamacare will be good for the company’s bottom line.
“And finally, we made progress this year in our Health Care initiatives, demonstrating our expertise by providing a tax and health care review for our clients on the upcoming changes resulting from the Affordable Care Act,” according to the annual report.
“These efforts have positioned us well as the opportunity associated with the Affordable Care Act unfolds and becomes clearer,” the company stated.
H&R Block president Bill Cobb suggested last month in an interview with Reuters the company could charge as much as $5 to $30 per Obamacare form.
One industry executive, speaking anonymously, told TheDC that H&R Block will charge $21.95 for Obamacare customers who seek tax help at one of its 12,000 retail offices.
Luria told TheDC the average cost would be about $25.

I am shocked to learn fleecing is going on!

Wait until they start charging you negative interest rates on your savings accounts (already happening in many places) to get you to want to spend your money or buy Apple stock instead of save. Should be illegal.
