It is sad this happened. I generally support Police Officers...this one is pretty damning though. 8 shots in the back as the suspect (unarmed) is running away. To me, it's seems to be a clear case of excessive force for the situation.

There is another thread here in which it shows an officer arriving at the scene where a family (crazy mom) drives off. His first reaction is to draw his gun and start firing at the car, without really knowing the situation. Had he struck one of the family members, he would likely be in a LOT more trouble, in my opinion.

It's tough to be a police officer. Still, you need to know when NOT to draw and fire your weapon with deadly force. Both officers in these situations crossed that line, in my opinion.

I saw the video and I can't see any way he could have been justified. He shot the guy so he wouldn't get away, it was like he didn't feel like chasing so POW POW POW!

I would not want to be in his shoes if he does have to do time... that would not be a nice place for him.

Steve Dallas listen to the radio traffic in the video you posted a link to. The officer who fired on the vehicle aimed for the tires and also believed there was a firearm in the vehicle and that the firearm had either been used or had been attempted to be used against the first officer.
I hate Monday morning quarterbacking other officers but it doesn't look good for this guy in SC.
JantzenOKC he will be in seg if convicted. No way they put him in general population.

He was also suspended for doing what he did. So, someone else thought his coming in guns blazing wasn't the best idea.

I'm confused. Which video is "staged"?

Oh yeah. Guy will rott in a cell. There is no way that his comrades will find a way to justify that use of force with the video evidence.

Again people jumping to conclusions until all the investigation and court decision has been completed.

You don't know what happen prior, you don't know what was said, you don't know if the man had a weapon. None of this information has been released.

Need to wait for more evidence.

All that being said, when the TWO officers were standing over a limp body, handcuffed, being searched.... Did either one of them even think of flipping him over and even attempt to save the perpetrators life. Doesn't matter if he committed a crime, he is still a human being and deserves every effort possible. There is a Hippocratic oath that should be adhered to, especially in the public service sector. The second officer definitely needs to be spoken to about it.
I don't envy the police dealing with stresses of the job, but that's what they train for.....hopefully.

More information. To sum up, the person that recorded the video says that the officer and suspect were on the ground, and the suspect was trying to get away from the taser. He was not struggling with the officers gun, as the officer had reported.

Usually, police officers are taken off duty when an incident like this happens. This officer has been FIRED already.

Really! Who cares what happened prior? The officer was in NO danger at the time he shot the guy in the back (5 TIMES) while he was RUNNING AWAY. And how can you even trust the officers story as he's already been caught in several lies.

This officer needs to pay for his crime and pay he will in prison.
