Quick question about super chargers

Does anyone know if they make a kit for adding a centrifugal super charger to my 3.8L V6? and if so what kind of HP gains would I be looking at and what engine/comp mods would i have to do? Thanks

This was the best answer I could find as it appears no one makes superchargers for the v6's anymore from the general consensus of message boards

Quote:
If you run forced induction, you will be limited to the psi you can pump in. I think the connecting rods are weak in the 3.8's, at least that's what I heard. The 3.8's out of FWD cars, I'm told, won't go into your car. I was thinking about getting an engine out of a supercharged bonneville, but apparently they won't bolt in.

Since everything you do will have to be custom, I would recomend a supercharger from paxton or vortec. I've heard of people putting them in place of the AC pump. None of this will be easy, and it's going to get expensive fast.
Quote:
ill answer your question simply the 3.8 can run about 7-8 ish pounds of boost on the stock internals without huge issues. gaining 7% of your na horse power per lb of boost means your gonna pick up 7*14 98 hp. so you can pertty much get youself to a little over 300 with bolt ons to the crank. but it wont be cheap your looking at 3 grand for a kit alone plus 2 grand ish for the install. frankly nitrous is cheaper.... and with good tuneing you can make more power with nitrous. but super charge is more sensiable if you want somthing thats legal to run at full power on the street. but if your stock dont start with a power adder get bolt ons and other upgrades first.

I just did some research and in 08 there aren't and Monte Carlo's, I did not know they were discontinued. But in 06 and 07 the SS's had the V8 that's in the Impala. LS4 I think. 05 and back there were the sc 3.8's. They had a roots type/twin screw blower on the top of the engine and not a centrifugal one. Which may be your best option for the V6, or turbo

the LS4 is a transverse mounted engine for FWD.

All the final years of the Montes are FWD, as are the Impalas

I was just curious. Even if I could afford to get the same one that was on the MC, I'm not sure there's enough room between the top of the engine and the bottom of the window to fit it on, not to mention the reprogramming I'd have to do to the ECM and the new gauge panel I'd have to get.

Thumbs up

well depending on what version of the 3.8 you have or not. the current ones known as the 3800 series II puts out 200-205hp stock. the pre series II engines put out 170 which was decent power for the cars that used them like the cutlass supreme or the regal. the supercharged versions were rated at 205 (series I engine) 230-235 (series II engine). but being GM they are notorious for listing the power below what they really put out. I had a friend who had a supercharged monte ss from 04 or 05 and he said that it was more than 230, closer to 280.

3800 series don't sound like 205, more like 250, guess its the exhaust

the super charged version of the 3800 made 240 I think (series II) and series III, is like 260! but thats a roots type charger. Go to a junkyard and swap your N/A for a supercharged one. then you can go Here and get some speed parts

The series III comes in the current Grand Prix. here is a quote from the spec list.

"Standard in Grand Prix is a 200 hp 3800 Series III V6"

"The supercharged 260-horsepower 3800 Series III V6 is standard in Grand Prix GT. With 280 lb-ft of torque, it has a following bordering on cult status."
