On the car. Is the car actually painted the way the color code is labeled?

What's the title say? Or how do you explain that one to the DMV?

Back in 1976 our dealerships first Corvette convertible, that I ordered in blue, came in painted beige. Trim tag and invoice both said it was blue. Was told by GM that the car was on the production line and they had an issue with the blue paint and it got painted whatever color was available. As this car was being exported the buyer didn't care.

This is actually something they need to fix. Especially on this car. 30 yrs from now, the SS is going to be a collector car and very rare.

Watch all those shows on the Velocity channel where they restore 30+ yr old cars, the VIN is the ABSOLUTE final word.

If the owner kept it for decades and kept it mint, its value will be worth lower because they will think it was repainted and no records show GM painted it red.

I bought a 76 Chevelle and nowhere did it stipulate that it came from the factory with the F-41 sport suspension but it was on it. I noticed when I was looking at the tire size that something didn't match the window sticker. Then I looked under the car and saw the rear sway bar. I looked at what the F-41 suspention option included and it was my tire size and rear sway bar with heavy duty shocks. I found the build sheet and it wasn't even listed on it.

wander if this might be valuable to a collector, might not be many in that combination

Unless he gets documents showing the mistake and a COA showing the mistake to prove it which should not be too difficult to do.

Those Aussies will soon be out of work with Holden shutting down so I don't think they give a shit.

If I were the potential buyer that would be a tough decision. The opportunity to own a car with a factory paint color error, which would make for an interesting story and collector vehicle, or wait for the color I ordered. I think if it were one of the shades of green or even the purple I woulda bought it (with a good discount of course) and had no problem. But that particular shade of red is too mainstream for me. Just my 2 cents.
