Also, my dad who imo is an incredible driver and he had one accident, 10 mins after he got first his license he had the front end of the 68 mustang he owned ripped off by a semi when he pulled out, he wasn't hurt. After that he never got in an accident.
aww dude was it a fastback? the 67-68 Fastback is my fav mustang of all time.

Truck.

I learned to drive in our Sonoma. First car I ever drove on public roads was the Sonoma.

Interestingly enough, it also started raining that day, and being a beginner driving something with barely any weight pushing down the rear wheels lead to a lot of epic stoplight burnouts.

Both my kids first drove a 1996 Chevy Silverado and they did pretty good driving it. And I feel they are safer.

I say the same thing about 3rd gens.

I'd go with a truck like a lot of people are saying. My brother still has his first truck. GMC Sierra 1500. It's still going strong with 230,000 Miles.

I actually like the 93-97 4th Gens, then again I have been driving the same one for 14 years now.

Hmmm. Since you are a GM guy I'll stick with what you would actually want.

IMO the third gen F body is the best GM product that still seems to get shunned a lot by the faithful which makes them cheap and that is obviously a good thing. They look great stock, particularly the late eighties GTA's, and they will swallow any smallblock mill you can throw at them.

Oh, and by the way, my dad built 3rd gen. F-bodies at Norwood, so if you go with that, you shouldn't have any problems.

I'm on board with the truck thing-excellent 1st car choice. But avoid a dually unless you have a specific need. They are a pain in the ass to drive. My prior truck was a dually- and they're tough to park, tough to turn, it's just an extra level of awareness you don't want to burden yourself with unless you're towing a heavy 5th wheel or gooseneck.
