I've been thinking about getting a guitar so I can start my own bedroom band and put stuff on the old computer.

I'd probably get this one: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/p...tar?sku=520220

Some amps have the effects station on them and they have drum machines, but they'd be a little expensive. I would just get one of these effects pedals that have all the effects like distortion, blues, clean, acoustic etc, and the drum machine:

It has like 60 drum patterns

just make sure they know what they are talking about. if you get some noob who is just trying to make a sale, get rid of him and move on to someone with a little more experience. you should be able to tell if what they are selling you is actually for you skill level
