Hit the steel plate at 1000 yards!

I've been working in a 1000 yard shot with my Cooper 54 Excalibur .260 with Valdada high-end Euro glass to compliment the rifles quality.

I worked out the mat myself and never took any lessons in long range stuff. I used a buddy to spot where my shot was going and he guided me to the plate. The winds gave us a break and were below 10 mph all morning. Using Monolitiic Munitions 109gr GS Custom bullet, I finally rand the gong. For a couple of guys going it on their own, we only took 87 rounds to get it done.

Once we have the 1000 yard thing down, it's time for a custom action and 26" barrel. The 1500 yard gong is calling.

I read on a forum today where a guy used a .260 to drop an elk at 480 yards. The .260 is an amazing round.

Good job 1000 yards is a tough shot, way to many variables but with pratice it gets easy and is fun.

How large is your plate? Nothing like the satisfaction of hearing that crack

OP, have you thought about the F Class shooting competition... Most guys to my understanding are shooting .300 ammunition... A friend that I work with does his own custom loading and he is shooting .280 ammunition. He and his team won the National Championship 1000 yard Competition...

It can be done. The 260 is an amazing round. Just need to be knowledgeable where you are placing your round in the animal.

I have a AR-10 in a 6.5 Creedmore, very similar round. Never shot a elk with it, but have no issue tipping a wolf over at over 600...

If you want to discuss long range shooting, ask Fiftydriver on here. He is an amazing gun smith and has lots of knowledge of long range shooting.

I don't care if it takes an Elk or not. I just wish there was a 1,000 yard range around here :(
