Tire experts at Wal-Mart

I was in line at the automotive counter yesterday, when I overheard a customer who wanted tires. His tire size was written down on a napkin for whatever reason. He asked the clerk for size, "216/65/16."

Now, clearly, there's no such thing as a tire that starts with "216," it's obviously "215," but it was either poorly handwritten, or the guy got his numbers a little mixed up. In any case, the clerk typed it in as requested. He regretfully informed the guy that they did not have that size in stock, but that if he ordered them, they could arrive tomorrow. The customer said yes... but the clerk said that the OTHER clerk (returning shortly) handled orders like that.

The other clerk returned, and was told that they needed to order some 216/65/16s for this guy. That clerk said, "216s?" and both the customer and the first clerk said yes... yes, they are 216s. So the next clerk went about the process of trying to order a set of 216/65/16s.

I usually volunteer to help folks out... but I was so amused, and so astounded that THREE adult males (including two automotive professionals (I know, it's hard to even type that with a straight face) were tripping over their own junk trying to figure out how to order some 216s, that I just left. They may still be there trying to order them ol' 216/65/16s.

Well, being a Walmart shopper, my guess would be that he got the number off the tire while his wife was still sitting in the car, thus squishing the sidewall down to where the 215 looked like 216.

I still do not understand how this could have happened.
We all know that Glorious Wal-Mart provides for us most generously, and especially for its beloved employees.
We all know that all Glorious Wal-Mart Employees receive most kind and generous benefits and salary, The Greatest and Most Glorious Training Program, and are destined to become the Great Army of the People's Republic of WalMartistan.

Now, peasant, simply drink the Kool Aid, on sale now, at Glorious WalMart and become one of us!

Walmart Tire Tech certification program (candidate must score 50% or re-test)
Test questions:
1. What shape is a tire on a passenger vehicle made in the US?
2. What shape is a tire on a passenger vehicle made outside of US?

Just using the word "Tire Expert" in the same sentence as "WalMart" is entertaining in itself.

How did you stop from setting yourself on fire while hearing that conversation.

Remember Murray's Auto Parts?

In high school I applied for a job there. They actually had a written test, mostly math, you had to pass. I did it and gave it to the manager. He looks it over, says "hmmph" about 4 times. Finally says, "I don't think I've ever seen this before."

"You got 'em all right!"

Thankfully, the dealer called and I got to be a porter for a couple years instead.
