hell, my saturn (in my ownership) is less than 2 yrs and 70k+ miles and just yesterday I forgot whether or not I replaced the serpentine belt last year....
after I bought a new one. (turns out, I did replace it already, so now I'm heading to the store to return the new one)

and you'll most likely say "yeah, but a belt tensioner is a minor part compared to a whole windshield."

but it will just prove you are missing the point. at this point, I'm just trolling you guys because it seems you care so hard to prove your point.
No.

A serpentine belt is a wear item and not really memorable. It would be like forgetting you had the flu last year.

Buying a hail damaged car is major. It would be like having knee trouble and forgetting you had a replacement five years ago.

Forgetting you replaced a commonly replaced (wear) item is a lot different then forgetting your car had major hail damage that required body work and a new windshield.

I'm talking about the tensioner... not the belt. and on a fwd car, I remember (now) skinning my knuckles doing the swap last year.
I've had Osgood Schlatter since I was 14... and from time to time, I do forget that I've had major reconstructive surgery on both my knees.

next.

ps... i didn't get the flu last year. I would never forget something like that.

People here take better care of their car (and remember more about it) then themselves . I see what you did there.....Flu.

define commonly replaced item.

the tensioner on my truck is stock and its got over 187k on it. the one on my car has less than 60k on it.

and the body work continued to be a huge issue for her in this instance.
repeated trips back for paint peeling/etc.

whereas the windshield was replaced and never had another problem (that she knew about) till now.

She had continuous problems with it. That was the point of her rant.

From the dealer side (a generic story, not specific):
Hail storms/a hail damaged car is a gold mine.
The dealer's insurance guy is friend, claim amounts are through the roof.
Dealer invites a storm chasing hail repair company to set up shop on the lot...fixing the dealer's cars for pennies on the dollar.
Salesmen sell the cars for as much as they can, telling you how minor the damage was and how the factory warranty will keep you covered...all you have to do is sign this one little paper acknowledging you're buying a car with hail damage.
What the dealer likely didn't tell you was exactly what the damage was, what you likely didn't read was the tiny print on the form saying anything that was damaged and/or repaired will not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

she's had a continuous problem with water intrusion, and until the windshield was pulled this last time, she didn't know that was the true cause of the issue she has dealt with for half a decade.

simultaneously, she didn't remember that the car had already had the windshield replaced before (again... 4-5 years and a lot of miles ago), until someone found her posts about the hail damage.

which... IIRC the car was officially "bought" after the windshield was replaced.
meaning that the significance of any memory of the car being "down at the shop" would have been for paint issues.
the car wasn't out of her possession to have the windshield replaced. It was replaced prior to her owning it.
As such, was not that big of an issue/memory.

now, as far as connecting the dots between "hey, my car has moisture intrusion" and "hey, this car had the windshield replaced"...
It wasn't just her that forgot.
considering it went back to the same shop repeatedly over the years and they still couldn't figure out what was causing the leak till now.

and you would think that professional mechanics/window repairmen would remember that the window was replaced.

hell, she could have even brought it up years ago and just as easily have it dismissed by said glass techs because they were too prideful to admit they could have screwed up.

OK, you win. She forgot.

Eliminating that thread was tragic, though.

The sharks had been gathering and were circling the struggling prey... then, just as a wound was opened and blood started pouring out... gone.

It would have been epic.
