if I understand correctly, there is nothing "OFFICIAL" in the term "official Ring time." Whatever manufacturers run or however they run, is not officiated or policed by a third party. Manufacturers can pretty much claim to have run a better time vs. others but seriously, no one really checks/validates how they got it. Some cars are timed based on a rolling start and some are from a dead stop/start. Some are run with roll cages and different tunes, tires, suspension set up, etc. etc. which are vastly different from the actual set up you buy from the dealers lot. For people who claim to be "car guys" don't seem to understand much about the "ring time."

To me, the real test for Track bragging rights is when Randy P. takes carX vs carY, on the same day and on the same track and he tells it like it is. For the Strip bragging rights, well, we get our a$$es kicked there so no point. LOL

IMO, Chevy uses the Nurburgring to show the world it builds balanced cars. Not old fashion Meatships.
Just curious do they care how it does on Laguna Seca? Would they know what's fast

Yes, we will probably hear about the tires used on the GTR until they discontinue the model. For every upside there is usually a downside. Some companies just don't want to risk accusations of falsifying data or disappointing customers with unachievable results.

I'm curious what the Z06 did at the ring, but I realize I could never match it. However, there are lots of people that think that should be the "normal" result. How many owners think they can run a 13.0 or faster 1/4 mile just because GM says you can? How many 13.0 or faster stock cars are on the fast lists of this site? (Answer: 16 of 31 for the M6; 5 of 27 for the A6). Even matching magazine times is difficult, trying to match the times of a professional driver is near impossible!

I'm sure GM sold a lot of Z28's because the time it ran at Nuremberg.

I don't know but doubt it. Ford plans to go global with the Mustang, correct?

We will see lightning lap times soon enough.so that will be interesting. Ford builds serious cars so it would be nice to see what they did on the Ring

Me too. They boast nearly 1000 miles at the 'ring but claim "bad weather" for an actual time. I know it's fast. Period. Just wanna know the number.

Plenty of rationalization in this thread.......

Faster, or slower. Better or worse times..... doesn't matter just post them.

It won't change my opinion about the car, but I still would like to know.

Also, it should be noted that GM doesn't even share all their times. Sure, they'll often do it with a high profile car like a Camaro or Corvette, or V-series Cadillac. But cars like the Buick Regal GS were tested on the 'ring too, and I don't remember ever seeing a time for it. Why? Because the primary reason they go is to subject the suspension to the widest variety of conditions in the shortest time possible.

Using that logic, they would have advertised times for the Boss 302 Laguna Seca. Because that was their freaking monster bad MOFO Track car a few years ago. And in 2011, they would have had extremely little to lose by touting a track time for it. There was no Z/28, 1LE, or even ZL1 Camaro to be compared against, not for a while at least. But they still didn't do it.

Nuremberg: symbolic home of the German Nazi party, also where many of them were put on trial after WWII

Nurburgring: a very famous circuit that, among other things, is commonly used by automakers as a testing ground for suspension setups

Good point about not officiated...hadn't thought of that.

It just shows what the car is capable of.

Agreed. The Randy Pobst test is probably the best one out there since it minimizes the variables as much as possible.

I could have sworn Ford boasting about some mustang laptimes at V.I.R. awhile back.

That'd be cool to see, which model or models were ran? I can't seem to find a link on the Ford Media site.

It's a game and Ford has never played. Even McLaren doesn't seem to play anymore and they're rumored to have the fastest production car lap time ever.
