Sounds like the same heat that wiped out my mom at Michigan International speedway Sunday....and my wife too.

She's ok now...I have a beef with the MIS staff for having difficulty getting help to get her back to the car...but its over now.

Hoping for a full recovery!

Scary stuff Donna. Glad he's doing better. The other day I mowed my small frontyard and a little of the back and had to call it quits. My boys don't understand why I make them come in about 2 hours befor football practice to cool down and hydrate. Even having practice from 6 to 8 is unbearbly hot. Next time he should get lots of fluids befor starting something like that if possible. Glad he's doing better. Jamie

I feel bad for your son's bad experience, and hope he makes a full quick recovery. I'm sure you felt helpless in that situation, but you did the right thing and getting him to the hospital when you did.

I can relate to the weather, we've been in the same steam bubble up here in Toronto, and I felt kind of sluggish at a car show last Sunday. However, I came prepared by bringing frozen water bottles, and spending as much time in the shade until the sun started going down. The water helped alot, and not to put blame on anyone, but we really need to be careful, especially when it comes to humidity.

In the end I'm glad your son got the help he needed and that his test came back negative, so his body can replenish itself back to the norm.

I'm not trying to play parent, but this is a reminder to ALL please clean your cars (interior and/or exterior) in the early mornings, or early to late evenings. It's better for the cars and especially for us humans.

good job mom. you seriously saved his life and prayers sent for a speedy recovery. and lets make sure no matter how dirty our cars are, not to clean em for 3 1/2 hours a day during the middle of summer. unless its 5 a.m. or 8 p.m.

Thank God Donna you were where God intended you to be, and saved your son! That's why you hear about football players that you think are in top condition, die of heat stroke. It is something to be taken seriously. I'll say a prayer of thanksgiving for both of you. Hang in there and let me know if I can do anything for you! I think you all need to go on a vacation now!!!

thankfully you were there for him donna. all my thoughts and prayers that he gets back on his feet soon. and i know exactly how that is i spent 3 hours cleaning my car inside and out one day it wasnt that extreme heat or humidity that day but i myself would get the heat and go into the garage and get out of the sun and drink some water and such to keep fluids in me. again heres to hoping hes back on his feet soon.

ps got the estimate on my car 4000.00 damage

Donna, Keith,
I am sorry to hear about your Son.
I hope all is well with his recovery.
It is scary that doing the most mundane task can place you in jepoardy
It lucky you were around to take care of him, but then again you are his mom so you were meant to be there.
Hope you are all out and about and staying cool real soon.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and prayers...he's up and around ok today so far...I tried to tell him yesterday that he was "crazy" to be working on his car in the middle of the day IN THE SUN to do something THAT CAN WAIT....but kids always think they know more than we parents do..."how did we parents EVER get to our age without knowing ANYTHING?"...lol...
As we were getting ready to leave the hospital after being there for 6 HRS, and Kevin getting 3 full bags of IV fluids, the 1st thing he says to me is that he's replacing his fuel pump today...I said "I will tie you down if I have to"...he learned NOTHING, until I showed him the paperwork with instructions that the hospital gave us when he was being discharged and had the doctor tell him he has to stay in the AC with NO SUN OR HEAT AT ALL for the next 48 hrs...
My son is such a "car enthusiast" with his Grand Prix, that he's already washed it or changed the oil at 11pm at night, in the winter, OUTSIDE, in the street in front of my house, and other such things...I also worry about hypothermia at that time of yr, and he just "laughs it off"...
That's why I am trying to let everyone know to be very careful, the car can wait, but you only get 1 life...
So, be careful out there all my Camaro "family members"....

Sorry to hear about that. It is good you guys got to the hospital at the time you did and that he is fine now. Heat stroke and dehydration can come on pretty quick and most people don't pay any attention to this stuff. Here is a local news story that was just recent in our area. Can't imagine how this mother feels...

thanks again, Camaro forum buddies...

I've always felt that we are "one big, happy(not all the time...lol)family" here that loves and cares for each other and each other's families AND Camaros too...
I felt that by sharing my experience with all of you that if it saves even one of you or if you tell this story to your families and friends and it saves them, then my "TRAUMATIC", scary, day was supposed to put me here to warn all of you...
I was so scared that Kevin would be dead by the time my husband could get home and drive us to the hospital...it was the most helpless feeling sitting here shaking and "crying like a baby" about my "baby" being at the hospital without me, but believe it or not, he was so thoughtful, that he made me promise NOT to drive to the hospital and follow the ambulance...he was afraid I would get killed driving like a "maniac" to try and keep up with the ambulance...
I feel such kindness and thoughtfulness from ALL of you and cannot thank you enough for "being here for me" during this difficult time...
This Camaro and forum has been my "lifeline" at times as I am barely over losing my beloved Dad last Sept. and being sick for the last 2 yrs with no cure at this point...(very loooonnnnnnnnng story)
I am so touched by all of your kind words and all I can say is thank you and God Bless all of you too..."you're the greatest"...

Glad he's doing OK, Donna. I know it was scary for you. Not the stress a mother needs, especially when you're not well yourself.

It's been a hot summer down here in Oklahoma. Many days over 100. Key is if you are going to work in the heat, you have to hydrate prior. Start drinking plenty of fluids hours before you start, while working, and after, and take plenty of breaks to cool down. It can hit you hard if your body isn't acclimated.

Will be thinking about you.
