My f150 cost more than my Camaro.....

Good grief OP, take some responsibility and man up. So sick of these, I was doing something (Or somethings) wrong and the cops wrote me a ticket....

The cops aren't saying you can't speed, just only drive as fast as you can afford!

Most law enforcement employee salary information is public. Look it up for your area. Jealous of what a patrol officer makes? Go be one. For the most part- and for those who are engineers, family practice physicians, or just the average white-collar worker who's done a few years on the "chair force" in an office setting with any kind of marketable soft skills-- Those base salaries as an officer are probably below those professions.

A comparison of starting salaries is a bit meaningless- every job has to have a starting point. It's the comparison of long term growth, income potential, and assumption of personal risk/reward that is more accurate.

Maybe I'm jaded by living in an area where the local LEO's seem to pull their weight and where the State Troopers/ highway patrol is still a respectable profession (and comparably underpaid, given the cost of living and personal risk involved). And nope, I'm not an officer, and wouldn't want to be one.

I have had plenty of warnings about the plate but never a ticket because I think they kinda know it is phasing out in most states in the US. This guy wasn't the nicest either, no how are ya, have a nice day... I could kinda tell it was more about the car I was driving (I do have mods). Plus today is the 30th.. everyone says there is no quota to meet but I see lots of lights toward the end of the month

Just had to get that out.. thanks!
I used to live up there in Columbus and the cops would pull you over for 1 mph over just so they could tag you for everything else. I had a G35 coupe with no front plate (car didnt have place to mount one when I got it) and all windows tinted including the windshield. Got pulled over on the 270 loop while trying to merge. Cop pulled me over saying I was tailgating even though I was switching lanes. He made sure to walk around the car looking for things to write the ticket for. 225 for no front plate and window tints (he didnt say anything about the front though) and he claimed speeding but I wasnt. He even asked if I was lowered and was going to write a vehicle mod ticket for that but I just had bigger rims (20" nothing crazy) on so they filled the wheel wells more. It was the last day of the month so he was trying to meet his quota. He threatened if I didnt take the tint off they would impound the car next time. I laughed said w/e and rolled away. Thankfully all that crap falls off my record next year.

A modded car will always draw attention. I've been profiled many times. Cops had told me before they were waiting for a reason to pull some of my cars over because they've seen them all over. I try not to give them a reason but sometimes there's nothing you can do. So glad I dont live there anymore.

Try to get it knocked down in court, good luck.

Please link us where you found that income claim.

Because unless my grandfather in law has been living extremely modestly in the past 20 years or we're talking Beverly Hills officers, there's no way in hell a patrolling officer is making 174k a year, hell I doubt officers in San Fran or Beverly Hills make that. I live in Newport Beach and know they don't make that here.

Maybe I'm confused, but I don't think officers need to see you speeding to pull you over for equipment violations that are visible to the naked senses (i.e. no front plate, very dark tint, inappropriately loud exhaust, etc).

Also, how many people do you know who drive exactly the speed limit? Technically 1mph over is actually speeding. Point is--the slight overspeed is probably just icing on the cake on a car that's otherwise a rolling citation.

All about relevance - not all will make that much.. but many are not far off.

Sorry I didnt get technical enough in my story there. The cops there were more likely to pull over a modded car when going over the speed limit and then take the time to rack up any and every violation possible rather than just pull you over because you have things done to the car. And by 1 mph I literllay mean 1 mph on some of the routes I would have to drive. Cops on them would sit waiting for you to be exactly 1 mph over and would get you immediately.

I've underwritten mortgages for several cops in the Tampa area and almost everyone of them was over 6 figures here. Keep in mind Tampa salaries for most jobs across the map are garabage compared to the Mid West or northern regions. They are a lot higher paid than you would think.

Whoa. "Employment Separation Payout" <> "Annual Base Salary"

Let's be clear. Also, notice the guy making $151k base. He's a Police CAPTAIN, i.e. MFPIC and probably built up that salary over years of experience and seniority.

Well there's many an " Officer" on that with a base pay of 100k.. then there's overtime.

A lot of people are unaware of how much public servants actually make. Whether it be LEOs,Firefighters, Public Works, or Garbage men. That's why many have mandated its record to be public.

LOL at MFPIC.

I understand what you're saying, but 1mph over is 1mph over. It's called a "speed limit".

Most of us would reasonably expect to be forgiven based on an margin of error between speedometer calibration and radar gun calibration, but we can't assume that.

The interesting piece about that is most stock speedometers are actually calibrated in favor of reporting a slightly higher speed than the vehicle is actually traveling. It's not by much, but on some cars I've seen 1-2 mph at a given speed for an analog odometer.
