Agreed, and if you got a ticket, you would have laughed and paid it. It would be your high speed road tax for the year. There point is there was no epic amount of danger here.

i get you're happy you didn't get the ticket..... i am too and i would say he was nice but very reckless by chasing you with his kid in the car ...and ...What if it were reversed and you were caught speeding with your kid in the car??? What kind of speech would you get when pulled over by a marked on duty uniformed officer? ............it would be guns drawn lots yelling, hands up .....Probably jailed for speeding and child endangerment

He was watching the the OP, probably with his foot right near the brake, so little if any chance of rear ending. Anyone who finds this a very dangerous situation must have so little skill that I would suggest trading in your Camaros for a bicycle and a very good helmet! C'mon man. Great story OP......good for all of us to remember.
.

uhhhh tailgating, and little chance of rear ending - he must have been a professional tailgater...

glad all worked out and didn't get a ticket -

I don't think the story was bout officer survival, good grief. So how would the story come out if he was in uniform and on duty....there would be atleast one that would want to know if he had his hat on or if he didn't have it locked on his radar he couldn't cite you.

Years ago I lived within view of downtown Dallas (Oak Lawn) and commuted to Denton Texas which was about 35 miles and going against rush hour traffic. One morning was running a little late and going about 85 mph in a 65 zone & most traffic moving at about 75. Got pulled over. Officer asked why I was in such a hurry. I said I was a professor at Univ. of North Texas and did not want to be late for my morning class. Sorry sir, my fault, etc. etc. He asked what I taught and I said Interior Design. He asked if I knew a student named...and I said yes she is in my morning class. He said she is his daughter so I had better get going and get to class on time, just stay with the flow of traffic in the future. I made it to class about 30 seconds early. Thank goodness she was passing my course! Small world getting pulled over by the Dad of one of my students in a metro area with millions of people.

In NY there are no unmarked cars. I had an off duty cop flash his badge in the window at me once try to get me to pull over, I shook my head and ignored him. He did give up. I talked to a friend of mine (state trooper) and he said I did the right thing. They can't pull you over when off duty and not in a patrol car.
