Copied below from website description of bench shirt:

"It is easy to learn the proper use of bench shirts in the design of the HD Blast. It is also used by advanced powerlifters. Used by many as a great aid in injury prevention and healling while still training."

That above statement pretty much sold me. The fact that he works out alone, no spotter, I like the idea of anything that will help him keep proper form and reduce the chance of injury.

He is, for the first time, trying to add some mass. Been workout for 30+ yrs, but now he wants to go a little heavier. So my main concern is that he doesn't get hurt.
Seems big for his size. I think mine is a 52".

But to let you know with how it comes, back closed, it will take another person to get him into it. Have him try it on first and see how it is. If it's too big they will swap it for you. If it fits, take scissors and split the back. Then he will be able to get it on by himself. But you, or someone, will want to be there the first time he benches in it to make sure he gets accustomed to it and the weight roll onto his belly or throat at the bottom.

Let you know how it fits. Since he lifts alone, he has two metal sawhorses set at chest height while on the bench. So he can drop the bar, touch his chest, and just as it touches him it rests on the stands. That's incase he ever can't finish the lift, he can still slide out from underneath the bar. It has happened in the past, and if he didn't have those stands he woulda been in real trouble.

I did the measurement according to their posted table and I ordered over the phone, so the person I spoke with said it was correct. But we'll see when it comes in.

Understood....that's actually a great idea.

I could be wrong about the size of my shirt...it's been a while since I ordered one.

But someone, initially with a closed back, will have to put him in the shirt and it will be a PITA.

Hello everyone. I had a friend of mine recommend some supplements to me. He is into body building and competes sometimes. Anyway, I was wondering what you think about it or if you may have any better suggestions. I am not trying to spend a ton of money. So, all of it is made by Metabolic Nutrition. The products are T.A.G., C.G.P., and TRI-PEP. Thoughts or suggestions?

If you are just getting into bodybuilding/lifting, I would recommend keeping it very simple. Only thing you need is protein. How long you been lifting/what is your lifting experience?

agreed, don't waste your money on stuff that isn't needed. if anything as hrpiii suggested, just get a protein and everything else you can obtain with food/diet.

Like stated below....if you are taking it to "put on size" don't waste your money. Instead just get you a good protein and start doing 20 rep squat workouts 3 times a week and drink milk.

I have never lifted and I can't do squats right now do to a recent knee surgery. The reason this came about is because the dr said that for some reason I am not building the strength or muscle in my leg at all. He said there should be something noticeable by now, yet there is nothing. I asked a friend of mine that is big into nutrition and bodybuilding and that is what he suggested. I know he and I do not have the same goals in mind but he is just trying to help. That is also why I am asking here. I basically want to get rid of a good bit of body fat but not loose any muscle at the same time. I have lost 12lbs due to everyone's help from here. I have gone from about 26% body fat to 23% so far.

if you are not gaining muscle, then it is your diet you need to look at. Lifting helps, but you have to be pushing your body. Lifting to be lifting and not pushing the body, well that is just "working out". If you cannot do squats, what leg exercises are you doing, and how much protien are you consuming a day?

I see your point. I am just biased towards them as I was trained to stay away from things that handicap your performance as you will be unable to use these during times of performance (Sports) and will keep from influencing un-natural "imbalances" This include weight belts, knee wraps, etc..

Last Winter (the times I change from more hypertrophic training to more strength/powerlifting) at 6'3 210lbs I hit 310lbs on bench, 455lbs on Squat, and 465lbs on deadlift. All of them natural without any handicaps or assisting clothing/belts. While these aren't exactly "impressive" numbers, for only 4 years of lifting, starting at 155lbs, and a very tall frame (stupid long arms) and staying 100% natural (No pro growth hormones, steroidal, or any testosterone boosting supplements) I think I've done alright in the bodybuilding/powerlifting world too. Can't wait for another 4 years.
That's a very impressive bench. You're built like me. Tall and lean. When we bench, we have to move the weight literally 2.5 feet, lol. Watching some videos of "powerlifters" doing bench presses sometimes cracks me up. You see them at a height of 5' 6" with a 48" belly, and then they have this massive arch when they lie down. Their range of motion is literally under a foot. Their arms are never bent below 90 degrees. It would be similar to us guys doing board presses with over a foot of lumber. Keep up the good work! One of the main things that really helped my bench was doing lots of heavy singles. In your case you'd load up the bar with 285 or 290lbs. Mentally, you already have the weight beat, because you KNOW you can press more than that. But the weight is heavy enough to really shock your body and condition it for max weight. A few weeks of incorporating sets of heavy singles into your workouts and you'll be crushing 315-325 without a doubt.

Thanks man! Yesss our range of motion sucks! I feel like I am traveling across the country and back. I used to lift with a buddy who was 5'6 and seriously his bench press is probably 8 inches....Versus our lanky ass arms.

Bench has always been my weak point. It started at about 95lbs 4 years ago. Yes I am actually starting to do exactly what you say! I am decreasing my volume, staying with heavy enough weight that I know I can do but that is also very hard! I have also found occassional negatives have helped me, loading something like 335lbs on the bar, something that I know I can't do, then lowering the weight extremly slowly. It gets my hands and nervous system used to handling a heavier weight.

Thanks for the adivice! Its awesome to hear about someone else with a similar lifting style!

Excited for you! What weight class are you going to lift in? 132 or 148? Sanctioned meet?

Looking at what you wrote above is 115 your max on a military press and is it done seated or a strict/standing?

Know what cracks me up?

Tall lanky f'rs that have long arms and are better suited to deadlift and only have to lift it 1.5 feet off the floor vs me having to lift it 3 feet

Seriously though what you posted above for the most part is BS. MOST powerlifters aren't 5'6 and have 48" waist. In fact most in the 242 lb class and under are in good shape FOR LIFTING HEAVY WEIGHT. In most cases this involves having a thick waist. It creates a much more stable platform to sit a ton of weight on your back to squat and as you have pointed out above, it does shorten the ROM in the benchpress. Mine is 36" or so and it ain't fat.
