I'm going to chime in here. Back in April i decided enough was enough i was 43 40 lbs overweight and i looked like sh*t. Its the typical story your in shape get married have 3 kids and start a career you forget about taking care of yourself. You learn a lot about your body what works and does not work when it comes to food. There is a saying in the fitness industry its eat average look average. People who are in good shape and fit don't eat the average typical american diet. They do things very differently. The short answer find out what your TDEE is(total daily energy expenditure) and eat less then that the weight falls right off. Its a dynamic number it always changes as you lose weight. The weight scale does not tell the whole story. You want to lose body fat but not lose any muscle that's important imo. Those fad diets suck you lose muscle as well as fat so they are a really bad idea. Its the end of the summer now i have gone from 206 to 167 just shy of 40 lbs lost and my body fat started in the high 20's down to 11% and i'm the best shape of my life. Weight loss comes down to 4 things. Mental outlook, good nutrition, cardio and resistance training. You get those 4 things right you will look better then 90% of the population. Buy this book http://www.amazon.com/Burn-Fat-Feed-...eed+the+muscle its awesome. Once you understand how the human body works you will never struggle with weight loss ever again. Its a lifestyle change fad diets are stupid and expensive they don't work long term. Best of luck with your fitness journey.

Yeah, I know it is a lot of sugar but those other recipes taste like eating "sticks & straw" as my brother-in-law would say. I can leave out the brown sugar, that one is pretty good without it. What about the Ice cream one? If I add more Banana it might be sweet enough but that is still sugar. I also plan to try some fruit sorbet recipes but when I crave ice cream is at night & I am trying to have protein in it so working on the ice cream first.

Tom Venuto's book is an excellent source of info, it's a nonsense approach and much of the knowledge share here comes from it. |

Recipes and all that is great....but Ruby, like CFD stated, you need to do resistance training and quit thinking you NEED an "exercise class". You will make better and faster progress when you start making training with free weights a priority. Until then, and until you make the ultimate commitment, you will continue to flounder.

Ruby I know it's a drive, but.....
If you'd like to make the trip to Cookeville and train with Monique and I for a weekend to get a crash course in free weights we'd love to have you. This was the "fattest" picture I could find of Monique...with her ex who as a point of reference is 165lbs....she was about 190 in this picture...the week she started her transformation she was 206.... ![]() To this..... ![]() ![]() ![]() Accomplished by a never wavering commitment, sprints, and free weights.

Thank you. One thing you can appreciate once you get into shape is the hard work and dedication it takes. I have so much more respect for people in shape once you know how hard work it is. It really is a lifestyle more then anything. I personally always found gyms very intimidating as i always thought people would judge me but honestly everyone there is just doing there own thing minding there own business. My only gripe about the whole thing is how much more expensive healthy food is. People who eat healthy should be rewarded more then anything not penalized.

I appreciate the offer Mydivorcegift. I know how to weight train. I took Weight Training, Body Mechanics (calisthenics), & Kinesiology in college & try to stay pretty up-to-date on new things that have been learned since then (since that was soooooooooooooo long ago). I have a wide variety of sizes of dumb bells and know how to use them.
Let me clarify what I mean when I say I need a class. To me the class is not just for the exercise. It is also important for me for social/emotional support, motivation & to have others pushing me. I need the routine of a time & place I am expected to be & friends who I know I will see & enjoy the company of while there. I need the instructor pushing me harder than I will push myself. On my own I will quit sooner, I just will. I know myself that well. Without the class I will make a million excuses not to do it or to do less of it. I truly have no appropriate space at home. I have absolutely no space to do any cardio stuff unless it is bearable weather outside. I can drag my mat out, lay it in the middle of the living room floor blocking the path through the room. That is what I will end up doing. I'll get up early, before my husband and I will do it. I have done it before. I will make progress. I have done it before. But it will not be as much progress or as fast as I would do if I had a class or a personal trainer or something like that. and I will not have the social support I need. That is part of the reason I started the thread. I need you guys to push me.
